Job overview
Bexhill Irvine Unit is looking to recruit a full time Matron (Registered Nurse on the NMC register or Registered AHP on the HCPC register
The Irvine Unit is a 54 bedded Intermediate Care Unit that provides short term care for patients who require inpatient support, ongoing care and rehabilitation prior to returning home.
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and passionate individual. Due to the size of the unit, the post holder will work alongside another experienced Matron to manage and lead the unit.
You will need to provide strong leadership, possess excellent communication skills and be able to develop and support staff with clinical and professional expertise. You will also be expected to function effectively under pressure without compromising standards of care and professionalism.
You must also have advanced clinical knowledge and skills, be willing to participate in research and audit projects and will also be expected to work with a certain amount of autonomy. In return you will be offered excellent managerial support and commitment to both your personal and professional development.
You must be a 1st level Registered Nurse with significant experience at Band 6 Sister /Charge Nurse level or a registered AHP on the HCPC register with team leader/management experience. The ENB 998/mentorship level 3 is essential as is an awareness of the current professional, research and practice issues and an understanding of modern human resource management.

- The post holder must provide effective leadership, would be accountable for their ward/department and be a professional role model leading and co-ordinating the ward team.
- The post holder would take 24 hour responsibility for the management of the ward whilst managing a wide range of complex and competing priorities.
- The post holder must promote and monitor safe and effective practice leading to high quality care. Auditing and analysis of data is essential to monitor standards and key performance indicators. The post holder must be solution focused and passionate about engaging staff with change and improvement initiatives.
- The post holder must be pro-active in enhancing patient experience by ensuring that patient needs are placed at the centre of care delivery. Our aim is to maximise patient care, by using all the resources available, to reduce length of hospital stay and maintain patient flow. You will be responsible for ensuring effective MDT approach to patient care and ensure that high standards of care are maintained.
- The post holder must be pro-active and ambitious about contributing to the delivery of the organisation’s objectives by maintaining robust budgetary control and levels of activity.
- Well-being of staff is essential, and the post holder must be approachable and ensure that appropriate and meaningful supervisions, well-being conversations and appraisals are undertaken to support staff.
