The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized acute and community trust with over 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.
The hospital has been on its present site for over 100 years and was established as an NHS trust by statute in December 1990. The Trust’s services are provided on the North Middlesex University Hospital site as well as a range of community sites across the London Borough of Enfield, including at partner hospitals. They provide services in collaboration with a range of partners, including local GPs, acute, mental health and other community health service providers across North Central London.
In the year ending 31 March 2022, the Trust reported a turnover of £419.7m and employed almost 4,000 staff. Following the transfer of Enfield Community Services on 1st April 2023, this has increased as we have welcomed over 600 new staff including District Nurses, Community Matrons, Community Physiotherapists, Psychologists and many more across a wide range of adult and children’s community services in Enfield. It is an exciting time to join North Mid as we continue our journey to become an integrated care organisation to deliver high quality, seamless care in our local communities, with a focus on tackling health inequalities.
Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for newly qualified midwives and final placement student midwives.
We currently have vacancies on our well evaluated Preceptorship Programme which has been awarded the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Quality Mark. It is a rotational twelve month programme which includes four three-month rotations around the clinical areas in the department. There is additional support from the Practice Development Midwives, Recruitment and Retention Midwife and dedicated study days to help you to consolidate all that you have learnt during your training and gain confidence in your abilities. We want your first year to be a positive experience to give you the best possible introduction to the wonderful profession that you have chosen.
Upon successful completion of your preceptorship programme you will be able to plan, with the Recruitment and Retention Midwife, where your next move will be to.

You will be part of a team who will be there to support you and help you develop into confident, autonomous practitioners.
Are you that person?

Working for our organisation
We are lucky to be able to work and provide care in our beautiful, purpose built maternity unit. We currently look after 4700 births per year and book over 5000 women for antenatal care.
Our students rate us highly - receiving "Practice Excellence Award 2020" (Poppy Team) from City University and “Outstanding Placement of the Year” (Tulip Team) this year. Our Bereavement Service received the RCM award for Bereavement care in 2018 and our Perinatal mental health team were awarded the NMC Excellence in Mental Health Award in 2021. In 2021 we received the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Mark. Our maternity service now receives 5 star reviews on NHS choices!
Our Trust has staff accommodation in North London and is situated within easy reach of London rail terminals and central London. We are in Zone 4, making travel to work less expensive, as well as offering on-site parking.
