Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.
We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. An exciting opportunity has arisen at Blackpool Victoria Hospital for an enthusiastic, flexible and well motivated individual to work as the Team Leader in Dispensary Services.
We are looking for a current experienced band 3 Pharmacy Support Worker who is interested in progression.

The post holder will work in a supervisory role within the dispensary as part of the Pharmacy team as a Team Leader. To plan and co-ordinate a busy dispensary ensuring staff are appropriately deployed. To ensure that workload is prioritised in accordance with the team leader checklist and demand. To participate in routine pharmacy duties. To liaise with satellite pharmacies on workflow and report back any issues to the senior manager that day.
They will be expected to have the appropriate experience in all areas of pharmacy services equivalent to an NVQ 3 and they will use their specialised knowledge to ensure all medicines are dispensed in line with the GPhC professional standards.

Blackpool Victoria Hospital, or BVH, as it is known locally, is a medium sized NHS district general hospital (DGH) and comprises the major element of secondary health care within the wider combined acute and community trust that is the “Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust”. The Hospital itself has around 900 beds and these provide care for Acute Medicine in its wider terms and DGH Surgical specialities, including amongst others General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Urology and Gynaecology. There is a Women and Children’s unit including both Consultant lead and Midwife lead maternity care.
There is a busy Accident and Emergency unit, closely linked to the Acute Medical Unit and the Intensive Care Unit. Surgical urgent admissions are managed through a Surgical Assessment Unit. Two regional specialities are hosted on site; regional Haematology and the Regional Cardiothoracic Unit (Lancashire Cardiac Centre) which provides Primary PCI and other tertiary cardiac services.

1. To work as a team leader and supervisor in the dispensary and supervise all daily activities.
2. To be responsible for ensuring dispensary discharges and med chart sheets are clinically checked and dispensed on time and are taken back to the wards in a timely manner.
3. To have a good working knowledge of all controlled drugs procedures, ensuring staff maintain security and that safe storage requirements are adhered to.
4. To complete the team leader checklist ensuring workload is prioritised and delegated.
5. To constantly endeavour to provide the best possible service within Pharmacy dispensary by ensuring all areas are staffed appropriately and to ensure workload is prioritised where needed.
6. To have a broad knowledge of pharmacy medications including which are critical
7. To ensure all policies and procedures are read and followed by staff and report any discrepancies or updates required to the Senior Technicians
8. To participate in the training of staff in the Pharmacy Dispensary and provide advice and instruction.
9. Undertake the training and reaccreditation of staff in the Pharmacy Dispensary and develop new and novel training materials to help promote staff satisfaction within their roles.
10. To work closely with the Senior Pharmacy Technicians for Dispensary services to ensure all duties are completed and are always carried out in line with the department’s procedures and where applicable the Wholesale Dealers Authorisation (WDA-H)
11. To ensure all incidents and errors are reported.
12. To work alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support workers in other areas of the department on all aspects of the Pharmacy dispensary services.
13. To liaise with satellite pharmacies on workload and flow, report back any issues with senior manager that day.
14. To liaise with Homes-first team with regards to patient flow.
15. When not co-ordinating in the dispensary you will participate in routine pharmacy duties.
16. To be involved in the maintenance of the chip and pin machine
17. FP10’s - to follow procedure PH16 and liaise with the Chief Technician if there are any problems

Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £25.50, Standard DBS check £25.50 and Enhanced DBS check £53.50.
You are encouraged where possible, to register for the DBS update service. This is an annual registration fee of £16. By registering for the update service you will not have the additional cost of repeated disclosures.
Should you withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.
DBS checks remain free of charge for volunteer positions.
