Job overview
We are looking for a suitably experienced Physiotherapist to join our Older Person's Medicine Team, joining our band 6 rotation to cover caseload on the OPM wards either at the Royal Victoria Infirmary or the Freeman Hospital. The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in audit projects and be part of a senior network for peer support and professional development and will also contribute to the training of junior physiotherapists, assistant staff and students on placement.
This will provide an opportunity for staff who would like to gain experience at a Band 6 level on acute and rehab older person's medicine wards as well as the opportunity to rotate through our day unit service and front of house in assessment suite, working in a supportive and friendly team and is suitable for a new or established Band 6 who would like the opportunity to focus on rehabilitation and develop this aspect of the service within medicine.

Applicants should be Chartered Physiotherapists with HCPC registration, have experience as a Physiotherapist in the NHS in a rotational post providing a broad range of experience across the core areas of physiotherapy and be able to provide evidence of a commitment to CPD. Good time management and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure are also essential requirements of this post.
There is an on-call commitment with this post and you will be required to work on a rota pattern to support seven day working.
Main duties include;
- assessing and encouraging mobility
- progressing rehabilitation programmes
- working alongside the MDT for planning discharge
- referring onward to community based services as required
- relevant education of MDT and physiotherapy team
- supervising rotational physiotherapists, associate practitioners and technical instructors within the team
- assessment and treatment of any respiratory patients on wards

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to a complex patient group on Older People’s Medicine.
- Senior posts are designed to consolidate and build on skills and academic knowledge gained during the first two years post graduation allowing the physiotherapist an opportunity to spend longer in specific areas of work enabling further development of more specialist clinical and managerial competencies.
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care (assessment, treatment and advice) to a complex patient group in specialty
- If applicable to role, participate in the Senior Physiotherapy general rotational scheme, which involves working across the Trust in a range of clinical settings, some of which are regional specialities
