We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join our adolescent inpatient unit in Swindon. The unit is multi-disciplinary and all are highly committed to providing the best care they can to the young people who are admitted.
The unit is part of the Thames Valley Tier 4 Provider collaborative and you will be linked into the wider Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) group of psychologists.

The successful candidate will be joining our existing part time clinical psychologist.

You will be joining Marlborough House Adolescent Inpatient Unit in Swindon, a constantly evolving service which is committed to adapting to meet diverse and challenging demands and to maintaining high quality specialist assessment and intervention.
The role involves the provision of a high quality Clinical Psychology Service within the multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable, and resourceful individual who is committed to supporting and developing services as part of a close-knit team. You will need excellent communication and organisational skills, and a keenness to be part of a busy and vibrant service.
We will need you to provide therapeutic interventions to young people, consultation, supervision and training to the team and will assist with case formulation and treatment planning. There is currently another 8a clinical psychologist (0.5wte) in post with whom you would be sharing the role and responsibilities and there are plans to recruit an assistant psychologist.
This is an exciting post and would suit someone who has experience in working with children, young people and their families, who is keen to develop wider skills working with young people presenting with a range of complex mental health needs and the families and systems supporting them. It would suit someone with interests in the areas of adolescent mental health including, but not limited to, eating disorders, OCD, autism and managing strong emotions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- As an organisation we are mindful of our staffs’ well-being and see supervision, support, training and development in post as a priority.
- In BSW we are strongly committed to staff development and progression. We have recently launched a comprehensive CAMHS specific training strategy for all staff at all levels. Our training programme includes numerous CAMHS specific trainings that are directly relevant to roles as well as external trainings funded by HEE. We would discuss with the successful candidate any CPD needs that they may have and consider matching with external training where possible and appropriate.
- Our training strategy also highlights development and progression opportunities for staff as we are keen to grow and develop our workforce for the future. Managers work closely with staff to ensure they have the right trainings to enable them to confidently and competently deliver high standard interventions to children, young people and their families.
- In BSW we understand the importance of professional identity. We have leads for each of the professional groups who organise regular meetings across BSW to consider professional development, issues and CPD.
Some key responsibilities will include:
- To ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist psychology service to clients with complex mental health problems including severe, enduring and multiple disorders, and challenging behaviour.
- To offer consultation and supervision, and support the work of other service staff and psychology clinical team members providing psychologically based care and treatment, according to expertise.
- To provide training placements for Doctoral Trainee psychologists, a range of qualified and unqualified staff across mental health areas, as agreed.
- To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
- To utilise research skills for audit, and contribute to research and training within the areas served by the teams and service.
- To be involved in service developments, as appropriate.
- All new starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process, aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale
- Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.

Essential criteria
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology including specifically models of psychopathology and psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. Current registration as a Clinical Psychologist with HCP
Experience

- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups
- High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
