This is a secondment opportunity to provide line management and clinical leadership to the Physical Disability Physiotherapy service. (PDPS) and to manage a specialist neuro-physiotherapy caseload of clients with complex neurological disability in a community setting.

The Physical Disability Physiotherapy Service is a well-established, highly regarded specialist neuro-physiotherapy team within Oxfordshire supporting people living with long term and complex neurological conditions in the community.
An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen to lead PDPS as a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist. You will be leading a team of innovative Physiotherapists with dedicated managerial and clinical aspects to your role. Development opportunities and regular supervision will be provided to support you.

Management:
•To facilitate provision of a safe, evidenced based and cost-effective service.
•To manage the PDPS budget, in conjunction with the Operational Manager, liaising with the Finance Team.
•To line manage the PDPS team: registered physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants and clerical staff.
•To be responsible for recruitment, retention & deployment of clinical and non-clinical staff with support from Human Resources and line manager.
•To be aware of and implement where appropriate, national drivers and policies
•To deliver all aspects of Clinical Governance working with the clinical team.
•Facilitate service awareness of Health and Safety and implement policies to improve the working environment.
•To report and record all incidents/ accidents in accordance with Trust policy.
•To provide information to the line manager as requested & receive strategic information to plan for service changes & developments.
•To collect, monitor, analyse and report on clinical activity, outcome and service standards for the PDPS.
Clinical:
•To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and work within a legal framework with clients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
•To undertake a comprehensive assessment of clients, using clinical reasoning to interpret information in a wide range of complex neurological disabilities.
•To recommend evidence-based intervention and to develop personalised treatment and management plans, with due regard for the client’s physical and psychosocial needs, and the environment in which the care will be delivered.
•To deliver a holistic physiotherapy treatment and management plan, by utilizing a wide range of treatment skills and options to maximise the client’s potential in a variety of settings. E.g.: home environment, sports centre, day centre.
•To offer support and advice to enable and empower clients and their carers to make informed choices about their self-management and to participate in social and leisure activities.
•To work in close liaison with the client and their carers (formal and/or informal), specialist centres, local resources, social services, and third sector organisations when planning, delivering and monitoring the client’s physical management.
•To demonstrate highly developed handling skills for the assessment and treatment of clients.
•To demonstrate highly developed communication skills when working with clients, including those with cognitive or speech problems, language or cultural differences and when dealing with sensitive or contentious issues.
•To provide advice, teaching and instruction to clients, carers both informal and formal, and other professionals in order to promote practical skills and the understanding of the aims of physiotherapy management.
•To be responsible for the ordering, and organisation of equipment for assessment in client’s homes and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training and supervision.
•To keep accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and service requirements, and communicate assessment, treatment and management results in the form of written reports and letters.
•To provide highly specialist teaching advice to colleagues within the service and staff within other clinical areas regarding the physiotherapy management of clients with complex neurological disability.
•To represent the Physical Disability Physiotherapy Service in the Integrated locality team, and act as a ‘Go to’ link person.
