OP Courage North are excited to be able to advertise a full time position for a Senior Community Nurse.
Op Courage North is the Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. The service is a provider collaborative delivering specialist mental health services to Veterans, reservists, and their families across the North of England.
The collaborative is made up of Cumbria, Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust as the lead provider, working with NHS partners Trust and Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Pennine Care NHS Foundation and Charitable organisation partners Combat Stress and Walking with The Wounded.
There are 5 clinical teams embedded within NHS partner organisations across the North of England, working to one operational model as one service, reporting to a Clinical Lead and Operational Lead who are overseen by a Partnership Board to ensure effective delivery of the service.

This is an opportunity to be a part of a very supportive team, where your contribution and development are highly valued. Successful applicants will work exclusively with individuals who have served with the UK Armed Forces, their families, and non-mobilised reservists.
You will be able to work autonomously and be willing and able to develop your skills and knowledge for this specialist role. You will be involved in completing holistic assessments and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to people on our caseload. There is a clear flexible framework in relation to specific slots in your working week in order to complete assessment, triage, and clinical intervention.
The service is committed to developing the skills of practitioners, so there will be ongoing opportunities to work within either assessment or care coordination roles, whilst also having the opportunity to gain further therapeutic skills through training.
Working for our organisation
Op COURAGE is an NHS mental health specialist service designed to help serving personnel due to leave the military, reservists, armed forces veterans and their families. It would therefore be beneficial if the applicant were to have some experience with the armed forces.
This post is a joint partnership with Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust and CNTW, the successful candidate will be based at Vermont House in Washington and be clinically managed via CNTW.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Op COURAGE: The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service provides specialist care and support for those due to leave the armed forces, reservists and those who’ve already left. Developed by veterans, for veterans, Op COURAGE is available across England.
Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust is the lead provider of Op COURAGE for the North of England, Tees Esk and Wear Valley FT work in partnership with CNTW and Pennine Care NHS FT, Leeds and York Partnership NHS FT, Humber Teaching NHS FT, Walking With The Wounded, and Combat Stress.
Op COURAGE offers a range of specialist support and treatment for members of the armed forces community, which includes:
- helping to recognise and treat early signs of mental health problems, as well as more advanced mental health conditions and psychological trauma.
- providing support and treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use
- liaising with charities and local organisations to support wider health and wellbeing, such as help with housing, relationships, finances, and employment.
- referring to other NHS services, where needed
- recognising that family may also need help and care and supporting them to access this.
As a Senior Community Nurse, the applicant will have experience of working in adult mental health services, completing assessments and formulating collaborative care plans, managing risk and supporting recovery. It would be an advantage to have knowledge/experience of the armed forces.
If the contract type on the vacancy states 'Fixed Term' this would mean the vacancy is being advertised to address a temporary need for the duration stipulated on the advert, however, in the event that permanent funding is secured for the post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.

- Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council - RNMH or RNLD (RNSC – CAMHS only ) – RGN (If appropriate)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent. Must be achieved within 6 months
