Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview
CITI is looking to appoint two individuals, one on a full-time and permanent basis, and one on a full-time and temporary basis to cover for parental leave - July and December 2024. Interview date TBC.
We will be looking to appoint candidates who between them, cover all the specialisms described in the job advert including improvement, digital transformation and programme management. The Head of Delivery – Transformation & Programme Management will be a member of the senior leadership group of the CITI Delivery function, leading on the development of a transformation and programme management capability group and community.
The post-holder will be one of the trust’s leading experts in the theory and practice of transformation and programme management, with expertise in operationalisation of innovation. They will have a tangible impact by leading and influencing the many varied teams, networks and leaders in the trust to bring about implementation of large scale transformation and innovation across the Trust.
You will at times be required to bring external expertise into the organisation. As such, they will work with other agencies and health care providers, identifying the need for and initiating contact with external experts, and scoping their involvement.

The change focus and the need to work across the organisation means that there is an even greater demand on their credibility and persuasion skills. Working for our organisation
The Delivery team is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Centre for Innovation, Transformation, and Improvement (CITI), which is the hub of specialists providing support to teams across the Trust in achieving ‘better, faster, fairer healthcare’.
CITI was founded in 2021 and leads on the implementation of the Trust’s strategy for innovation, transformation and improvement. It aims to develop an ecosystem that encourages the acceleration of new knowledge and capabilities and learn from best practices globally, to deliver improvements in patient care, research and education at scale. CITI co-locates multi-faceted teams to provide the focal point for clinical innovators and services seeking to translate ideas or early stage products or improvements into clinical practice. The Centre aims both to incubate and deliver innovations and improvement ideas, projects and programmes, working alongside and for its clinical customers for the benefit of patients.
CITI builds on industry best practice in taking innovation from concept to practice. It aims to foster a culture of innovation and improvement throughout the Trust, and acts as the intellectual home of our core change methodologies.

Senior Management for the CITI Delivery team
· Together with the other members of the senior Delivery team, develop management and operational processes to govern, monitor, track and report on the activities of the Delivery function.
· Design, facilitate and lead Delivery team meetings and regular meetings with other stakeholders including external agencies and partners.
· As a member of the Delivery function’s senior leadership team work to develop communication tools which serve to engage employees and create transformation and improvement opportunities and conversation at all levels in the Trust.
· Support the CITI prioritisation process for transformation and improvement opportunities that sit in the pipeline of initiatives for CITI.
· Work with others in CITI and senior multi-disciplinary staff on pre-empting problems and misunderstanding in relation to the CITI offering, and in particular around transformation.
· Provide senior level transformation, change management and programme management expertise with specific responsibility for delivering the vision for the transformation component of the Delivery function and CITI more broadly.
Lead for Transformation and Programme Management capability group
· Work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of the organisation acting as a subject matter expert, advising the Executives and other senior leaders on transformation and programme management topics.
· Lead on the development and delivery of a comprehensive business management framework for the Transformation and Programme Management capability group within the Delivery function. Including; developing a core transformation implementation methodology, programme management methodology, establishing a community of practice, developing supporting learning and development materials, designing and leading events to engage and grow the community of practice
· Lead the development of the transformation and programme management capability within CITI to support the implementation of the clearly identified transformation approach within the Trust.
· Build organisational transformation and programme management capability based on sharing information and learning.
· Act as the Transformation expert and champion to lead, manage and embed transformation methodologies across all functional areas in the Trust, including and training/mentoring employees on transformation and programme management approaches.
· Lead the capability group in ensuring regular interpretation of the benefits of CITI’s work in terms of improved patient and service user experience and other core CITI KPIs
Delivery lead for large and complex programmes
· Take the organisational lead for key change initiative where the complexity and/or cross organisational impact (incl. financial) requires senior and experienced leadership to ensure delivery, especially (but not exclusively) where there is a transformation or programme management component to the initiative.
· Provide effective leadership to multiple, long term strategic plans for sustainable service development, improvement and transformation at service and Trust level. This will involve working across Trust and wider boundaries, in new and existing areas of change, complex interdependency mapping and managing both fixed and ambiguous requirements such as detailed business planning targets and large-scale change programmes.
· This includes identifying and securing commitment to change, engaging and managing stakeholders in order to deliver effectively and influencing existing opinions to sustain change.
· Responsible for transformation and change projects that will be associated with multi-million pound financial benefits
· Lead and work with others to understand and track complex interdependencies and delays between different parts of the service or programme.
· Influence and direct staff allocated to work on particular programmes, ensuring they meet expected levels of performance and receive appropriate support and development in order to build an effective internal consultancy. Provide direction and ensure that all Delivery team staff, especially those aligned to the transformation and programme management capability group have the necessary skills and experience to operate as an effective internal consultancy and delivery unit.
· Have direct contact with patient and service user representatives to ensure Delivery initiatives are delivered with coproduction and collaboration at their core.
· Responsible for managing and assessing a complex range of data and making informed recommendations which are focussed on outcomes that meet external and internal customers’ and patient needs.
· Design innovative and workable approaches to gathering information and data collection systems. This will include information gathering where data is difficult to get and interpret.
· Use data-driven presentations to challenge existing work practices and beliefs for varying audiences.
· Produce written documentation, including status reports, information/data/reports as required for service and clinical management up to Executive level, bids for funding and explanations of technical and complex issues. Ensure communication is appropriate for target audiences. Make recommendations and present findings at all levels throughout the Trust.
· Responsible for the development of solutions that meet the specification of the end user/client.

- Extensive experience of designing and delivering: • improvement work and programmes • training programmes in continuous improvement methodology and programme management This experience should be in large complex organisations, preferably in a health care or health service environment.
- Highly developed knowledge and extensive experience in scoping improvement methodologies, developing implementation plans and tracking progress and benefits.
- Extensive experience leading senior teams (managers and senior managers) to deliver large complex programmes.
- Design, development, implementation, and management of change in a multiple stakeholder environment and experience of passing on project improvement to others.
- Extensive, comprehensive experience of senior staff performance management in large and complex organisations, including motivating, developing, and coaching to meet appropriate deadlines.
