The Head of Corporate Communication and Stakeholder Engagement will lead and manage a flexible, specialist and integrated communications team to ensure our communication activities and outputs, work closely together with engagement activities and outputs across six places and at South West London level. This will ensure our integrated communications and engagement strategies for SW London have maximum impact and are of a consistently high professional standard.
This role will work closely with the Chief Executive and Chair and their teams, to ensure they are both supported in communicating consistently and transparently about our SW London system, and protecting and enhancing its reputation around delivery, partnership and innovation.

With support from the deputy directors you will organise, prioritise, and manage the short to long term work plan for the following integrated communications elements of the work programme for the whole team, using specialist knowledge and experience, in close collaboration with senior engagement colleagues. The postholder will ensure each part of the team works together effectively and flexibly towards shared objectives.
· Corporate communications – building trust with communities and partners by supporting the organisation to fulfil statutory requirements to be transparent and accountable for its duties, as well as communicating about the organisation’s priorities and objectives in a consistent way in line with key strategies.
· Public affairs – monitoring and understanding the impact of external developments which may affect the organisation and our system. Supporting senior leaders to keep abreast of national and regional developments, guidance and NHS policy so that it caninfluence their plans and activity.
· Stakeholder management – advising and supporting senior leaders to understand, build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
· Internal communications – ensuring our staff are informed and engaged in the work and strategic direction of the organisation, and the wider health and care system.
· Joint digital lead (websites and accessibility) – together with the Head of Communications, Campaign and Engagement, ensure all communications and engagement team members are actively considering digital approaches as part of their wider plans – ensuring the organisation has an accessible and transparent digital presence. This role will have a particular focus and responsibility for the ICB and ICS websites and accessibility of information published online.
The post holder will have experience and expertise in each part of the communications remit and will be a source of professional advice and guidance for the team. The post holder should understand best engagement practice, be able to advise and clearly articulate why and how communications and engagement working together in an integrated way maximises the impact of the team.
This role will have a key role in supporting the organisation’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead and EDI and anti-racism approaches – leading our communication and engagement around why EDI is essential to an open and inclusive workforce in which all staff members feel valued

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in communications.
- Extensive knowledge of integrated communications, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent
- Evidence of continued professional development in the integrated communications skill mix
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment
- Knowledge and experience of up-to-date professional communications approaches and techniques
- Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes
- Demonstrated experience in a Healthcare environment
- Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures.
- Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of the individuals.
Skills and Abilitites
Essential criteria
- Able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
- Ability to persuade Chief Executives, Chairs, Board members and senior managers of the respective merits of different options, innovation and new market opportunities.
- Ability to negotiate on difficult and very complex and detailed issues
- Ability to analyse highly complex facts and situations and develop a range of options
- Ability to carry out procurements for highly detailed, high value contracts that require analysis, comparison and assessment
- Ability to make decisions autonomously and on difficult and contentious issues where there may be a number of courses of action.
