Job overview
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team on our Critical Care Unit in Eastbourne where we care for the most acutely ill patients in the hospital.
Critical Care EDGH comprises of 5 level 3 beds and 3 level 2 beds.
You will be fully supported in learning how to care for patients in the Critical Care setting and receive training to grow and expand your knowledge in all aspects of looking after the acutely ill patient. These include:-
- Recognition of the Acutely ill Patient
- Care of the Ventilated Patient
- Airway management, including Intubation and Extubation
- Respiratory support , including CPAP, Hi-Flow and Humidification
- Tracheostomy care
- Sedation
- Understanding Blood Gases
- ECG Rhythm Recognition
- Use of Inotropes
- Haemofiltration
All the above are additions to the basic nursing care that we continuously provide to all our patients.
To care for our patients we need a highly skilled and innovative team. We will support your development through every stage of your career with our dedicated Critical Care education team headed by our unit Practice Educator.
Our well established programme for registered nurses will be tailored to you, combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for you to excel in your role. You will have access to expert clinical mentors and higher education programmes such as the Critical Care Course at degree or master's level.

We work closely with our 'sister' unit at the Conquest Hospital and cross-site working, at times, is a requirement of the role.

Essential criteria
- First Level Registered Nurse
- Basic Life Support
Desirable criteria
- Diploma or degree level study.
- ALS course
- Recognised Degree level Teaching and Assessing course
- Recognised Degree level Intensive Care course
Experience

- Experience of working on general wards as a trained nurse or student.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience or involvement in research/audit projects.
