Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

This is a full time ENT consultant post. The post holder will also be expected to carry out some general Paediatric ENT surgery. This post is a fixed term cover post to cover sabbatical.
The post will be based at Evelina and St Thomas’ Hospitals.
To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, and to contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital is a purpose-built Children’s hospital opened in 2005. ELCH comprises 5 directorates of GSTT & functions as a Strategic Business Unit under the umbrella of GSTT. As part of King’s Health Partners, ELCH is now one of the UK’s Academic Health Sciences Centres, aiming to bring together world class teaching, research and clinical services. Paediatric ENT is a key service for the ELCH & is integral to plans to develop & expand the services offered within Evelina London Children’s Healthcare
Our directorate consists of 9 services for children including eight surgical specialties, theatres & anaesthesia. With an annual income of over £33million, we see over 50,000 outpatients and perform over 7,000 procedures a year. We deliver care in our specialist children’s hospital, which has 7 dedicated operating theatres and have a workforce of 407 of all disciplines, including 89 consultants.
Our children’s ear, nose and throat (ENT) service is one of the largest and most specialised in the UK. The department offers a wide range of outpatient and inpatient services to children from across south London and south east England. These include routine secondary care for the local population, as well as specialist care for complex children from a wide area. Our subspecialty services include specialist MDT airway service, paediatric head and neck and vascular anomaly MDT, complex otology and implants.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of ENT services to the Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to include:
- Clinical:
- Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
- Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.

Professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise and entry on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT.
- CCT in ENT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
- Possession of IPLS (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g MD; PhD; MS; MSc.
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Full fellowship experience in Paediatric ENT to tertiary level within a large teaching hospital
- Experience of full scope of adult and Paediatric ENT to CCT level
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of wide experience in Paediatric airway management
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- A commitment to and evidence of multidisciplinary practice, working with other specialities and intensive care departments in the management of cases.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues; clinical and non-clinical, patients and their carers/relatives.
Research, Teaching skill & experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research and a demonstrable aptitude for participating in department research goals.
- Proven research ability at national level.
- Proven teaching skills and a commitment to the training of junior doctors.
- Publication of papers on Paediatric ENT topics
