We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

Job overview
Would you like to be part of a large and well-supported team of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) in an innovative and forward thinking trust? If so, we would love to hear from you. This SLT adults with learning disabilities team covers the diverse boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, making this an exciting opportunity to hold a varied communication and dysphagia caseload. Band 6s are a key part of the SLT and wider MDT, they are encouraged to take part in and lead service development projects alongside providing supervision of peers and for other team members, therefore ensuring that no two days in this post will be the same.

The postholder will work within a supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team at East Dulwich and provide a service to adults with learning disabilities and their support networks across the whole borough.
They will be part of a supportive wider 3-borough team covering Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham and will have opportunities to work across all 3 London boroughs.
The postholder will be supported to develop their skills and knowledge in a range of areas. These areas include: Communication Passports, Paper based AAC, Electronic AAC, Makaton, Accessible Information, Intensive Interaction, Interactive Storytelling, Eating and Drinking, working with people who have complex needs, multiagency working and training of others.
Experience and/or a passion for working with people with a learning disability is essential.
There is a strong ethos of clinical support and supervision within the team. The team has regular unidisciplinary as well as multidisciplinary meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a cohesive and effective speech and language therapy service to adults with learning disabilities (ALD) residents within the borough of Lambeth.
The post holder will provide assessment, advice and intervention to clients receiving services from a number of appropriate agencies, such as Social Services, not for profit organisations, private and voluntary.
The post holder will provide appropriate communication and eating and drinking assessment and intervention to clients.
The post holder will be expected to deliver training to staff and significant others in the areas of communication and eating and drinking.
The post holder will be required to work across borough boundaries, accessing and recording information using mobile devices, and coming into offices for meetings or specific events.
The post holder must travel across the borough to clients’ homes/day services using other personal protective equipment (PPE) as determined by the service to ensure safety in general and to protect lone workers in particular.
