An exciting opportunity has arisen for the new role of High Dependency Clinical Support Facilitator to join the paediatric HDU team. The post holder must be able to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment, contribute and work as part of a wider team of healthcare professionals.
The post holder must also possess good interpersonal skills, particularly dealing with people either in person or on the telephone and have good communication skills. The post holder will work as part of the HDU team, ensuring a high quality service that supports the care delivery to patients with high dependency needs.
The post holder will be responsible for managing and maintaining adequate HDU consumable stock levels, ensuring that critical care stock and non-stock items are ordered, stocked and maintained at safe levels at all times. The post holder will also be required to monitor the use of resources available and work within the current financial envelope. They will also ensure that critical care equipment is maintained in good working order at all times and within service dates.
Another exciting aspect of this role is supporting the up-skilling of ward staff by supplementing the Education Team, at times, with training on various low level equipment used on the unit and teaching on study days, eg, tracheostomy and nasopharyngeal airway management.

JOB SUMMARY:
OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE OF THE POST:

All tasks are likely to contain some degree of customer/supplier liaison, both in person and by telephone; this requires a high level of customer service skills.
A high level of mental effort and concentration is required for the role, based on the acute Paediatric Unit, specifically whilst resourcing and calculating costs of complex clinical products for a broad spectrum of Paediatric specialities for all ages/sizes of Paediatric patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To ensure all critical care equipment is set up appropriately, maintained in good working order, calibrated, functional, charged and set up ready for use as required.
2. To lead on POCT staff training (eg, pregnancy, flu and RSV testing), ensuring all POCT equipment is maintained in good working order, liaising with the POCT team.
3. To lead in the verification of assets for clinical equipment as required by Paediatric General Manager.
4. The post holder will prioritise unpredicted HDU workload and make accurate, fast decisions on non stock clinical supplies.
5. Manage stock control system to ensure sufficient stock levels of essential critical care equipment are available at all times.
6. Obtain quotations for purchases and contracts in line with Paediatric requirements and in accordance with the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
7. Analyse quotations using own initiative to determine the most cost effective source of supply, maintain accurate records and report all savings achieved to the Deputy Head Nurse on a monthly basis.
8. Ensure all appropriate documentation (eg, quotations) is submitted with the non-stock requisition).
9. Ensure that all Paediatric non-stock requisitions are correctly prepared, authorised, checked and processed within the agreed timescales, including delegation to ward clerk team where appropriate and keeping wider team updated re contacts for urgent orders.
10. Data input on the Unit 4 e-procurement system to process and input requisitions to create purchase orders.
11. To assist in the input of HDU data, including the Picanet level 2 dataset.
12. Ensure value for money is achieved throughout the procurement process through negotiation with suppliers and ensuring all existing National and Local Government contracts are utilised. Analysing quotations and ensuring targets are achieved.
13. Plan, organise and prioritise workload to ensure all urgent requirements are met within required timescales.
14. Work on own initiative within current policies and procedures when analysing quotations and ensuring targets are achieved.
15. Ensure compliance with appropriate purchase procedures and Quality Assurance standards.
16. To act as first point of contact for representatives from current suppliers and potential suppliers, establishing and maintaining relationships to gain further information regarding the products and services available.
17. Participate in appropriate training and development activities, for both equipment and ordering resilience.
18. Support the HDU and Education team in delivering training or equipment teaching as required to maintain staff competencies.
19. To support in the delivery of teaching to service users, eg, Basic Life Support and tracheostomy management pre discharge, as required.
20. Responsibility for the cleaning and maintenance of all simulation mannequins and critical care teaching aids.
21. To ensure the Paediatric critical care room is equipped, replenished and ready for use at all times.
22. To carry out any other duties as may be required by the Ward Managers or Deputy Head Nurse as may be reasonably expected within the scope of the post (including the work of colleagues during periods of absence and peak workloads).
23. To comply with the principles of risk management including health and safety legislation, promoting high standards and acting immediately on hazards or unsafe practices in conjunction with other staff.
24. To develop and maintain a sound knowledge of procurement product areas (or those that may be personally allocated) including an awareness of market trends and best buys.
25. To liaise with Consultants and to provide specialist equipment/supplies as required.
26. Record and maintain information for the Trust, providing an audit trail which can be used to improve services.
27. Must be competent in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel and able to maintain databases and spreadsheets for essential equipment, stock levels and cost of equipment.
28. Undertake any additional clerical activities including secretarial support, administration and filing duties to support the Deputy Head Nurse, Ward Managers and Clinical Nurse Specialists, as required.
