Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties:

To provide Psychological interventions under supervision. These will include brief interventions and risk management.

To assist the team in the development of individual or group clinical materials or training materials, such as the development of single session interventions.

To work alongside others in the collection, analyses, and presentation of outcome measures to support the case for proving the clinical and cost effectiveness of Psychological assessment in the team using Psychological measurement tools and other data

To act in a manner that supports a Psychologically informed framework for the service.

Develop the ability to professionally deliver psychological oversight of the triage of requests for support, formulations, interventions, and research within defined scope of practice.

Use applied service research and evaluation to inform interventions.

Work with individuals with complex needs.

Act as a Psychological resource providing support and training to the wider health or social care teams.

Develop ability to deliver complex assessments and potential brief treatment single session interventions developed with a Clinical Psychologist who will review practice through supervision.

Develop ability to conduct risk management assessments and evaluations, support safety planning with individuals.

Maintain a compassionate, caring, and safe care environment.

Develop a range of Psychological single session interventions working within defined scope of practice, whilst the supervising Clinical Psychologist retains overall clinical responsibility, reporting to a Clinical Psychologist in terms of psychological assessment, formulation and brief intervention based on a single session model.

Develop understanding of how to identify and use Psychological assessment methods, such as 5 Ps use within applied clinical practice to underpin assessment, drawing on formulations in Psychological Theory, providing a clinical framework describing an individual’s problem and/or needs, whilst providing a rationale for how problems have developed and are maintained, and identify subsequent plans for care.

To have clinical expertise in the mental and emotional health needs of children, young people, and their families, (covering 0-25 years of age) and be able to elicit information from professionals, carers, and young people to support full assessments via telephone and other forms of digital technology which enable timely clinical decisions to be made.

To understand local emotional health provision and be able to give children, young people and their families and referrers appropriate advice and guidance and as needed make appropriate referrals and support colleagues to make referrals to the appropriate service.

To have knowledge of child and young people’s mental health needs and local services. This will involve information gathering, assessment (including risk assessment) and care planning, with Children, Young People, Parents, Teachers and being an active link for other Stakeholders such as Schools, GPs, Mental Health, and Voluntary Sector Organisations.

To develop skills and confidence to support colleagues within Just One Number, especially in understanding of current mental health need, risk and care planning.

To develop skills to contribute to production and maintenance of digital resources on Just One Norfolk and promotion of these within JON and with other stakeholders – allowing the identification of appropriate use of self-help material and understanding when further clinical assessment is indicated.

Use of measures to monitor effectiveness and establish outcomes and share these within JON and CCS

Under the Supervision of a specialist practitioner supporting clinical decisions and demonstrate a high level of clinical understanding. Follow the robust clinical risk management processes that are in place and contribute to ensuring they are adhered to within JON.

Demonstrate that evidence is translated into sound clinical practice.

To maintain a clinical profile being visible, accessible, and approachable to staff, stakeholders, and the public. To ensure that open and honest communication channels are sustained.

Support staff within Just One Number and wider services to fully understand and use the clinical pathways to ensure the most appropriate and safest outcome for the CYP.

Ensure the voice of the child and young person is pivotal in all aspects of clinical practice and development.

Report to a Principle Psychologist in terms of psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention.

Be responsible for own learning and development using reflection and feedback to analyse their own capabilities.

Meet their clinical Psychology Supervisor on a regular basis in accordance with British Psychological Society (BPS) standards for accredited practice.

Undertake regular operational supervision with Team Manager/ nominated team member.

Develop understanding of the importance and impact of Organisational Culture in service delivery and development.

Understand the appropriate boundaries of professional competency in offering support and supervision and work within the scope of practice of the role and within the bounds of professional competence, in line with employer’s requirements around values, conduct and ethics.

In all clinical and professional activities, act in accordance with the BPS Professional Code of Conduct, identifying and challenging discriminatory behaviour.

Engaging in their own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain and update their psychological scope of practice.

Support the development of junior staff.
