Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the West Sussex Division (#WSXMentalHealthTeam) in SPFT as a Divisional Professional Lead for Social Work.
The role will include leading and further developing social work provision across the Division. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work closely with other divisions and professional leads across the Trust, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. In addition, they will have a particular focus on developing working relationships and social work informed practice with local authority and VCSE partners, to improve outcomes for the population we serve.
Reporting to the Divisional Managing Director and the Trust's Director of Social Work, you will ensure the social work voice is clear and heard.

As the Professional Lead, you will provide assurance, guidance, and oversight for all social workers in the areas of workforce, governance, and professional practice.
You will act as a role model demonstrating an expert level of professional skill, knowledge and competency, underpinned by theory gained by an advanced specialist training.
50% of the role will be dedicated to Professional Leadership and 50% to Clinical Work, including patient-facing and/or pathway leadership, providing expert social work intervention and consultancy.
You will work autonomously, within the professional and Trust guidelines, delivering and developing clinician initiatives and strategic plans for social work, services and pathways in the Division and the Trust.

Take responsibility for the safeguarding and protection of children and young people and vulnerable adults very seriously, as does The Trust. The Trust works with adult and children’s social care to ensure that the integrated service has systems in place to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to recognise abuse, and take action to safeguard and protect vulnerable adults and children and young people. It is expected that all staff familiarise themselves with the appropriate structures and policies and with the local and national child protection and safeguarding procedures and the local and national multi-agency policies and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults and undertake the relevant essential training and further training appropriate to their role.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• To independently prescribe care and make decisions about the direction and type of care the service user receives. • To work autonomously, within professional and Trust guidelines and to exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of professional practice of social workers, trainee social workers and, where appropriate, other staff and to ensure that appropriate training, consultation and supervision structures are in place and consistent with national and Trust guidelines. • To work directly with multi-professional teams to assist in the management of risk, facilitation of complex case reviews and the immediate crisis management. • Provide expert care group social work opinion and advice within other areas of the trust. • To propose and lead on policy and service changes that impact both on the service area and throughout the Trust. • To develop a range and diversity of highly specialist programmes of care and therapeutic services available within the care group, ensuring appropriate changes take place and to lead the change process to enhance service user care and to ensure sound governance.
• Provide expert clinical supervision and mentoring for staff working within the care group through formal clinical supervision, supervised clinical practice, case conferences and skills modelling. To oversee the professional supervision structure to all social work staff to ensure they are receiving sufficient supervision to meet their needs and to provide the service with governance. • Establish and maintain standards, guidelines and protocols that advance social work and multi-professional practice and promote and implement these within the care group and influence the implementation in other services. • To establish and develop proactive and positive relationships with professional leads across care groups and clinical teams. • To provide expert mental health social work advice within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and with other agencies as appropriate including Social services, Primary Care Trusts, User/ Carer representative groups and voluntary agencies. • To influence social work at a Trust wide level, leading on major developmental projects that impact Trust wide. • To lead the Social Work profession across the Division, developing clinical initiatives and strategic plans for Social work in conjunction with the Triumvirate and the Director of Social Work, providing clinical leadership and expert opinion to the directorate. • To work jointly with Team Managers and the Divisions Professional Leads with regard to the recruitment and retention of clinicians and other staff as appropriate in the designated area.
