The UCLH Paediatric Emergency Department is one of the busiest and safest in the country.
The department is entering an exciting phase with the physical redevelopment of our facilities nearing completion, full digitisation of our clinical workflow, a fully-funded workforce transformation, an evolving programme of innovation and evolving links with sector acute care partners through the North Central London Startwell Program.
Our workforce consists of medical staff from CYP and Emergency Medicine with a dedicated nursing team. We also employ Paediatric Emergency Medicine Fellows from a background of Paediatric Higher Training who have a specialist interest in emergency care.
This position reports to the Divisional Clinical Director for the Emergency Services Division and will provide medical leadership to the delivery and development of our clinical services within the CYP ED. You will work alongside consultants in CYP and Emergency Medicine, the departmental nursing body and general management teams.
The clinical team in the emergency department, led by specialists in emergency medicine and nursing, seeks to provide patients with the best clinical care as quickly as possible, as well as to allay the distress and anxiety which is often associated with accidents and emergencies. UCLH aims to treat and admit or discharge all patients within four hours, except when patients’ clinical needs dictate that the patient continue to receive treatment in the emergency department for longer.
The residential population served by our Paediatric Emergency Department predominantly comes from the boroughs of Camden, Islington and Westminster, and the ED serves much of London’s West End, and has a catchment area incorporating the major railway terminals at Kings Cross, St Pancras and Euston, as well as several busy underground stations.
