Job overview
Critical Care at UCLH is seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious individual who enjoys working in an exciting and fast-paced multi-disciplinary team environment, to support us in the delivery of a quality service as a Band 4 Ward Administrator working flexibly across our 4 units as required.
This is an exciting opportunity to join UCLH. You will work collaboratively with three other Ward Administrators to provide full administrative services both at the Unit reception and with alongside clinical teams on our Intensive Care Units at University College London Hospital.
This is a permanent full- time role with working hours of 37.5 hours a week. You will have the option to work from either 08:00 – 16:00 or 09:00 – 17:00, 5 days a week. You will have the opportunity to choose which of the four units you prefer to work on and spend the majority of your time there, although cross cover will be expected.

The successful applicant will be entrusted with responsibility and expected to be self-motivating. They will carry out administrative and patient-facing duties including admitting patients on to our patient information system, uploading medical documents and collecting inpatient notes. They will be able to respond quickly and flexibly to emergencies and urgent queries, going above and beyond to deliver quality of service.
The post holder will also serve as lead for the room booking system and take ownership of the physical environment on-unit, attending environmental walks with clinicians and resolving technical problems.
They will be expected to provide cross cover with the other ward administrators during times of leave and heavy workload commitment, ensuring that the service provided meets the needs of senior departmental staff at all times. Patient experience is at the forefront of all that we do. You must demonstrate excellent customer skills with a can-do attitude. There will be opportunities to undertake training and professional development.

Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths.
- Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act
Desirable criteria
- Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer, Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, acquired through training and/or previous experience of working in an administrative environment
- Previous demonstrable experience of working in a customer facing environment, with knowledge of a comprehensive range of administrative procedures
- Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of being able to respond to queries and deal with unpredictable situations as they arise
