Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Inpatient Adult Learning Disability Services for the role of Practice Development Practitioner.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced clinician to support the improvement of the lives of people with learning disabilities by minimising the impact of their condition. This will be through effective clinical leadership and the development of highly skilled staff to support the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing for all service users. Individuals will maintain responsibility for ensuring the services they cover provide a progressive learning and development environment for all grades of staff including temporary staff.

The successful applicant will be expected to support our Adult Learning Disability wards in the Durham Tees Valley area, currently at Bankfields Court, Middlesbrough.
Your role will be to ensure a high standard of care delivery through role modelling, specialist knowledge and skills in clinical practice, providing advice, mentoring, supervision and training across services, while promoting and contributing to inter-professional learning activities across services and implement in-house teaching.
The successful applicant will be expected to implement key practice developments and quality initiatives in order to achieve excellence in patient care in partnership with nursing and clinical multidisciplinary teams. They will also be responsible for their own personal and professional development whilst undertaking this role and at time representing their Associate Director of Nursing or professional lead as required.

Essential criteria
- Current professional registration with professional body
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to master’s level equivalent
- Recognised clinical teaching qualification or equivalent clinical mentoring and teaching experience
- Leadership qualification or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale.
- Evidence of continuous personal development
- Quality Improvement Systems for Leaders or willing to undertake within agreed timescale
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of working with people with complex mental health problems within inpatient or community mental health / memory services
- Extensive experience working collaboratively with staff, service users and their families/carers
- Demonstrable experience in a clinical leadership role
- Extensive experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring and teaching to healthcare professionals and students.
- Experience of been involved in the delivering of change and service improvement.
- Experience of resolving complex and challenging situations in collaboration with other disciplines and agencies
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable knowledge to post-graduate level of evidence-based practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
- Significant evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
- Good understanding of relevant legislation and guidance (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA, Safe Staffing) and its application in practice.
