The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services for a catchment area of up over 1 million people. Our patients are referred to us by around 100 local GP surgeries and other acute hospitals and primary care Trusts around the country. We are involved in the teaching and training of a wide range of health professionals, in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other local education providers.

Job overview
Our Cardiology services are some of the most advanced in the country, cover a range of services including our acute cardiology ward, angiography suite and our coronary care unit, which is the PPCI Centre for Norfolk. In addition to this we are the Norfolk Heart Attack Centre.
We are incredibly lucky to have a department with additional space created by the £15 million spend on our new IRU unit and a complete refurbishment of the cardiac catheter labs; the department is going from strength to strength.

Who we’re looking for?
We are looking for a part time Administrative Assistant to our Pacemaker services to become a member of a truly collaborative and hardworking team who provide administrative support to our Pacemaker department.
This post will provide a high-quality admin support service for the Pacemaker section of the Department of Cardiology, and as such, will need to be able to communicate well with patients and their representatives, the public, a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust and Pacemaker manufacturers. This will include providing a support service to the technical staff, a versatile approach is essential and the ability to cope with many different tasks simultaneously is a prerequisite of this post.
This post will include diary management, providing telephone coverage, management of results databases, audio typing and digital editing, preparing agendas, taking minutes and other general office/admin duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Deal efficiently and effectively with direct and indirect (i.e., telephone, face to face) enquiries from patients, all levels of medical and nursing staff, GPs, other hospitals and other health professionals and staff, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
- Respond to enquiries, providing routine and non-routine information and non-clinical advice, resolving problems where possible.
- Communicate appropriately with patients who may be fearful, aggressive or have sensitive concerns needing reassurance and who may present difficulties in communication e.g., terminally ill patients, deaf patients, mentally ill patients, and elderly confused patients.
- To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical, and nursing staff of the department.
- Assist patients and their carers by arranging translation/interpretation facilities via Trust interpreter provider.
- To ensure the smooth transition of hospital records to satellite pacemaker clinics at other sites.
- To collect, provide and maintain statistical data for referrals and in-patient/out-patient pacemaker clinics and ICD follow up, for the purpose of aiding the Head Pacemaker Technician in auditing work activity.
- To liaise with the Pacemaker Technicians in the organisation of pacemaker follow up sessions for patient during Radiotherapy treatment.
- To maintain the various filing systems and record books within the department and provide a filing system for all departmental staff to use.
- Frequent bending, lifting and transportation of heavy bulky case notes.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
