Job overview
The Insights and Intelligence Team is an analytical service supporting NHS England by providing information, analysis and analytical support. We have an aim of 'do once and automate' wherever possible and therefore produce South West Regional products for use by the centre and locally. This approach reduces the analytical overhead enabling us to support local analysis where required and ensures consistency of reporting across the South West region.
This role is a key part of the Analytical Delivery Team. With support from other team members, this role will lead on one or more programme or large topic area, becoming a subject matter expert and liaising with specific programme teams to support them with their analytical needs, as well as supporting others within the analytical delivery team.
This role will often work as part of multi-disciplinary ‘squads’, made up of colleagues, both internal and external to the Insights and Intelligence team, to deliver on projects that require a range of skills and knowledge.
In consideration of the national competency framework this role will most closely align to the Data analyst job family at Senior Practitioner level. The specialisms expected to strongly feature within the Analytical Delivery team are Descriptive & Explicative Analytics and Business Analysis, as well as Communication and Patient & Customer service competencies within the Behaviours ancillary framework.

This role is based in the Analytical Delivery work area. This team will be the main point of contact for most customers, responding to ad hoc requests and working with the other functions to support customers with insightful analysis. It will include the subject matter expertise, with named leads for each key area, providing primarily descriptive and diagnostic analytical support to regional teams, regional programmes and ICBs. Products will include descriptive analysis, decision support, causal analysis and analytical advice and guidance. Analysis will be both strategic and operational and include the translation of existing national and regional products.
This team will work with the other 3 Insights and intelligence core functions in a collaborative and seamless way using a ‘team of teams’ approach.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will support a team of senior analytical managers within the Insights and Intelligence Team which will provide strategic analysis for insight into NHS performance and evidence to support decision-making.
In particular the post holder will:
Demonstrate knowledge and established practice of a variety and depth of analytical techniques (including advanced Excel skills) to provide quality, timely analysis and intelligence relating to key priorities of NHS England. These priorities will include assurance and accountability, commissioning, transformation, quality and safety, finance and policy and strategy development.
Have excellent communication skills and be able to influence people with different perspectives to get the most out of stakeholder relationships.
Support teams to ensure that the portfolio of tasks/projects is planned, managed, and delivered effectively, be calm under pressure and able to juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines. Effectively manage risks and interdependencies to deliver their own work programme and anticipate and communicate the impact on other’s work areas.
Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence and papers and ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects.

- Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject (such as Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Operational Research, or a related quantitative or analytical discipline) or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience in specialist area.
