Job overview
The post holder will be the point of contact in pharmacy stores for all supply and stock issues, for all sexual health and family planning clinics, ensuring an effective and robust medicines supply service to all areas. Also, to improve communications and liaise with multidisciplinary staff to ensure orders are correct and deliveries are made in a timely manner.

They will be required to work closely with the senior pharmacist, assisting in audits which will include travelling to clinics throughout the Lancashire area.
They will be responsible for ensuring the timely ordering, receipt and delivery of all medicines for clinics are carried out to meet the needs of the service and aiming for an uninterrupted supply to be maintained.

The Pharmacy Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals consists of over 140 members of staff. We provide a wide range of services including clinical support at ward level, a dispensary service, aseptic services, medicines procurement, clinical trials, medicines information and much more.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To amend, authorise and place orders for medicines for all sexual health clinics via the pharmacy computer system, to external suppliers using various means including, telephone and EDI ordering.
2. To deal with queries from clinics with regard to stock and supply issues
3. To ensure all orders from clinics are processed, picked and checked in the pharmacy distribution area, in a timely manner and delivered to clinics on the correct transport.
4. To investigate any pharmacy related incidents raised by sexual health and family planning clinics.
5. To liaise with suppliers regarding provision of stock, expiry dates, standing orders and ensuring all orders are delivered to pharmacy correctly.
6. To manage the stock levels and expiry dates of over labelled stock, ensuring sufficient stock is in pharmacy to fulfil all orders for clinics.
7. To liaise with pharmacy production unit in ensuring all in-house over labelled products are available to order.
8. To maintain and update all stock lists using EMIS pharmacy system, ensuring stock lists meet the needs of the clinic.
9. To maintain delivery schedules for clinics and ensure all deliveries are packaged securely and appropriately in suitable containers and addressed correctly.
10. To liaise with transport services, both internal and external, to ensure all deliveries are made correctly and at the agreed time.
11. To manage any stock shortages and if stock is in short supply, liaise with service leads to ensure it is evenly distributed to clinics.
12. To perform regular stock checks in pharmacy and investigate any stock discrepancies.
13. To manage the variance of brands of stock provided, in line with current CMU contracts and stock availability, ensuring all clinical staff know which brands of stock will be kept.
14. To ensure the cost effective and continuous supply of medicines for clinics in line with CMU contracts and current Trust financial standing and to investigate price queries raised at goods receipt and invoicing.
15. To assist the senior pharmacist for clinics in auditing of clinics and the service we provide.
16. To assist with the monitoring of the service and complete monthly KPI’s to reflect the service.
17. To work closely with clinics, spending time in each clinic on a rolling programme to discuss service issues and come up with new ways of working to improve the service.
18. To constantly look at the service we provide, ensuring it is fit for purpose and in line with current Trust policies and financial standing.
19. To be involved in the investigation of complaints and incidents and liaising with the senior technician to help them in the identification of carrying out of root cause analysis, CAPA and any change controls that need performing.
20. To attend meetings with senior technicians and clinical leads and be able to provide updates on service provision.
21. Deal with urgent requests for new or out of stock medicines. Source stock from other hospitals or suppliers. Place orders and arrange transport. Deal with the problem in a professional manner understanding the urgent clinical need of the patient.
22. To assist and support distribution and purchasing staff in dealing with all matters relating to sexual health and family planning clinics and any other matters that are required.
23. Follow all relevant standard operating procedures for the purchase, distribution, and delivery of medicines but to be able to use your knowledge and initiative to deal with supply problems.
24. To know own limitations and when to refer to a senior member of staff.
25. To perform any other duties relating to pharmacy stores as requested by senior technician.
