We are looking for a well-motivated, enthusiastic, experienced and appropriately qualified Biomedical Scientist with a Microbiology background to join our team working in the Microbiology Department within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
As a Microbiology Team Manager you will be expected to supervise and manage sections of the laboratory working with an enthusiastic team where career development is encouraged and supported. You must be State Registered with the HCPC, hold an MSc with Microbiology
Specialism or equivalent or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in Microbiology. You must have evidence of CPD and have extensive experience in diagnostic microbiology and serology within an NHS setting.

You must be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge, experience and understanding of Quality Management Systems, Health and Safety legislation and evidence of education and training. You will be expected to undertake staff appraisals/Human Resource/workforce duties, and be responsible for managing day to day staffing, workflow and training to ensure turnaround times and service are maintained.
You must be capable of managing and supporting change to support the department in delivering the service within the allocated budget. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal, leadership and organisational skills.
Microbiology services are located at North Tyneside General Hospital, serving North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham Hospitals as well as six community hospitals serving a population of 550,000 both Acute and Primary Care, with Primary Care accounting for 45% of the workload. The department operates a 24/7 shift system.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. • Responsible for leading and managing a section(s) of the laboratory within the department of Microbiology.
• Provide supervision for Biomedical Scientists , Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Healthcare Science Assistants.
• To ensure the production of accurate and timely laboratory test results.
• To deputise for the Operational Managers and other Microbiology Team Managers in their absence.
• To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means
demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and
empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams /departments and across organisational boundaries.
