Job overview
Join us on our journey and help us make history. An opportunity has arisen for a High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) trainee within the CHCP Psychological Wellbeing Service based in Hull. The post-holders will work within the Let’s Talk service providing high intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role.
This intensive training post will equip the post – holder to provide a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) service to clients with a range of complex problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. The post- holder will work in the service for 5 days of the week using the newly developed skills whilst working towards accreditation.
The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities. You will have excellent engagement skills and be committed to completing accreditation with BABCP on successful completion of the course.
Clinical supervision with an accredited supervisor will be provided to support development of skills and knowledge leading towards supervisor accreditation. You will be able to work flexibly across the area of service delivery and will be proactive in organisational, service and personal developments.

As a trainee CBT Therapist, you will attend an IAPT accredited training programme at Sheffield University and will submit required academic and client-based reports in line with the university training programme requirements. Please note: Interviews can be joint service and university interviews, therefore application packs for applicants successful for interview may be shared with the university. On successful completion of the training course it is expected that you will progress to employment as a CBT therapist with CHCP.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- One of the core BABCP mental health professions (see Job Description for University information)
- First Degree in allied discipline (usually psychology) Those without an undergraduate qualification but with evidence of the ability to study at third year of undergraduate degree will be considered
Desirable criteria
- Qualified in a mental health profession (e.g. social work, OT, MH nurse, clinical or counselling psychologist or psychiatrist) and have at least 2 years post qualifying experience. Please see https://www.babcp.com/Accreditation/Core-Profession.aspx
- Additional CPD qualifications relevant to Mental Health practitioner role
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an understanding of mild to moderate mental health issues and how it may present in Primary Care
- Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post
- An understanding of mental health clustering tool (HONOS)
- A sound knowledge of principles of CBT
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
- Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health problems

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of adapting resources and practice to meet the standards of the accessible information standard
