Job overview
Hywel Dda University Health Board are seeking dynamic Locum Consultant Radiologists who are specialists in cross sectional imaging and possess a flexible approach to work. The Health Board offers an excellent opportunity to join a progressive team of consultants and contribute to the on-going development of radiological services within the Hywel Dda University Health Board.

These appointments are Health Board wide (base agreed on offer of appointment), the successful candidates would join the Radiology team to provide CT and MRI reporting duties on a 4 week rotation to support the Health Board, to include vetting and reporting of urgent, emergency cases, general and oncology reporting. Candidates with subspecialty reporting interests are very welcome to apply. The candidate will contribute to the wider workload of the department subject to job plan discussions, including teaching of radiology trainees, reporting Radiographers, undergraduate students, and other hospital staff. A flexible approach to working is essential with the Health Board requirement demonstrated in the job plan section of this document.
Out Of Hours (OOH) on-call is currently outsourced and completed remotely by an online Teleradiology provider, the successful candidates will assist the Health Board in providing a proportion of this service as described, completing cross-site reporting and emergency cover for our four main hospital sites where necessary.
The departments of Radiology at the acute sites operate strategically as one department and there is close collaboration leading to the integration of services. The successful candidates will fully participate with the existing consultants in providing radiology services across Hywel Dda and will be expected to build good working relationships which would augment and compliment the services we currently provide.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (five of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practise
- FRCR or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad based experience in General Radiology
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and participation in CPD
- Demonstrative knowledge and experience in the vetting and reporting of MRI and CT requests to include urgent, emergency, oncology and general cases
- Able to apply knowledge
- Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and experience of communicating bad news
- Meet the requirement of the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice”
