Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce that we are currently recruiting a Senior Peer Worker to work into the Recovery, Engagement and Cocreation Team located within Secure Inpatient Services, Ridgeway. The role will be based at Ridgeway at Roseberry Park Hospital, to deliver peer support into the wards and provide supervision to our Secure Inpatient Service Peer Workers based there.
Peer support can be described as being when people with shared experiences connect to build safe, trusting and non-judgemental relationships where we learn and grow together. Peer Workers are people who have experience of mental health challenges and accessing services for mental health care, and are employed, trained and supported to work to the TEWV Peer Support Values and use their experiences to support others.
For this role, we are looking for people who have:
· Relevant experience of mental health challenges
· Personal experience of accessing secondary, tertiary or inpatient mental health services
- Experience of working as a peer worker or in another lived experience essential role
- Experience of delivering formal peer support
We welcome and value applications from people with personal lived experience of Secure Inpatient Services, Prison, or other forms of confinement or contact with the criminal justice system.

These are challenging but rewarding roles supporting people with a wide range of experiences.
Your time in post will start with attending our peer support training alongside other people starting peer support roles with us. This training is delivered by people with their own lived experience who also have direct experience of working in peer roles themselves.
Working under the direction and guidance of the relevant Peer Co-ordinator or Peer Lead within the service, this role will involve:
· Working autonomously into designated teams or wards to provide peer support
· Setting up and facilitating / co-facilitating peer support groups
· Working into designated team processes to support service user voice to be heard and bring lived experience expertise into team or service processes
· Delivering 1:1 supervision to peer workers and peer practitioners
· Facilitating or co-facilitating co-reflection spaces for peer workers and peer practitioners
To support you with this work you will receive ongoing regular line management and peer work supervision, and will be able to access a range of other peer connection and development structures.

You will be aware of the impacts of trauma and committed to the importance of working in ways which are sensitive to the needs of trauma survivors.
You also will be an integrated and valued member of the team. Peer roles involve contributing peer values and the knowledge, skills and expertise that come with lived experience of mental health challenges and mental health services. Important parts of this role also include working within the team to help service users’ voices be heard and to promote recovery values and trauma informed approaches. Peer roles will be supported to challenge both individual and structural instances of stigma and discrimination related to mental health and other forms of exclusion.

Trust Welcome Day
Here at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys Foundation NHS Trust, we want you to have a positive experience when you start your new role with us. To ensure you have great welcome, for all new starters joining the Trust, we offer two start dates per month on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of that month.
On your start date, you will be invited to our in person Trust Welcome Day at our Flatts Lane Centre, Middlesbrough. Your first day will be engaging and informative, it will allow you to meet and network with a range of Trust staff, learn more about us and what we offer. For certain clinical roles, your Welcome Day may then be followed up with additional mandatory/statutory clinical training.
