We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and ambitious leader to join Cambridge University Hospitals and contribute towards our strategic direction, making lasting improvements for our patients, colleagues, organisation and local system.
Our improvement and transformation function is critical in supporting the Trust to respond to national operational and financial pressures, whilst delivering our longer-term strategic ambitions.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Innovation, Digital and Improvement, you will be responsible for our improvement and transformation function, embedding a culture of sustainable continuous quality improvement (QI), leading on strategically agreed QI programmes of work and in conjunction with finance colleagues our productivity and efficiency programme.

Main duties of the job
The Director of Improvement and Transformation is responsible for leading our strategic QI programmes of work. This includes:

Leading transformation programmes to improve our short- and medium-term productivity, aligned to national priorities and Trust strategy, including pathway redesign, outpatients, length of stay and virtual wards

Working with clinical and operational leaders across the Trust to understand the enablers and barriers to implementing change and to ensure that resources are allocated efficiently to support the strategically prioritised programmes of work

Support the delivery of the Trust’s financial recovery plan through the development and delivery of improvement and transformation work that drives out waste and makes agreed savings

Develop the Trust’s approach to transformation beyond the walls of the hospital, including working with colleagues at Place and integrated care system-level, to develop and oversee our approach to pathway transformation

Drive the use of a consistent improvement methodology for the Trust (the Model for Improvement), to empower staff to deliver sustainable continuous QI and oversee the development and roll out of QI capability and capacity building programmes for the Trust

Provide leadership, direction and support to the improvement and transformation team and all direct reports

Deputise for the Executive Director of Innovation, Digital and Improvement.

Experience

- Significant experience of leading transformation in large and complex environments
- Demonstrable experience in leading meaningful collaborations with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of implementing lean methodology in large-scale organisations
- Demonstrable experience of leading significant programmes of work and change initiatives in partnership with a range of stakeholders, including at system and regional levels.
- Experience of working with Boards
