Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview
A unique leadership opportunity for a Senior CITI Analytics Manager to lead the CITI Analytics function. We are looking for candidates with subject matter expertise in healthcare data analytics, with experience in developing insights to support senior leaders with the identification, prioritisation and effective delivery of CITI projects and programmes.
The post holder will act as an ambassador for CITI across GSTT, collaborating closely with senior stakeholders. We are looking dynamic individuals who are driven to fulfil CITI’s ambitions to be an exemplar internationally of a function that stimulates and delivers leading innovation, transformation and improvement.
CITI co-locates multi-faceted teams to provide the focal point for clinical innovators and services seeking to translate ideas or early stage products or improvements into clinical practice. The Centre aims both to incubate and deliver innovations and improvement ideas, projects and programmes, working alongside and for its clinical customers for the benefit of patients.

The Senior CITI Analytics Manager plays an instrumental role in leading and delivering the Trust’s transformation and improvement programmes and work closely with the Senior Management team of CITI and Clinical Groups, playing key role in the following:
- Lead the delivery of insightful analysis that support performance monitoring, transformation and improvement for a number of Clinical Groups. Taking the lead in using a range of analytical and reporting software and bringing together internal and external datasets.
- Being directly responsible for designing strategies for data collection, collation and analysis as well as the development and implementation of plans to provide analytic support to programmes and projects supported by CITI. This includes the resource management of CITI analytical resources.
- Post-holder will develop data insights and analytical tools that support performance management as well as the prioritisation and delivery of change.
- Be responsible for generally providing analytical service to the Senior Leadership of CITI so they can monitor, track and report the impact the function is making at an aggregated level. This will include informing the prioritisation process for CITI by collating and analysis performance data from across the Trust.
- Be responsible for elevating the analytic capability across CITI and across the Trust through supporting the development and delivery of capability development programmes and communities of practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Technical subject matter expertise
1. Provide Data Analytics Subject Matter Expertise to the teams across CITI, to programme teams and to Clinical Group teams across the Trust.
2. Be responsible for elevating the analytic capability across CITI and across the Trust through the development and delivery of capability development programmes.
3. Lead on the production of collaterals and tools in relation to the areas of subject matter expertise which are useable by other members of CITI and the wider organisation.
4. Work with the Faculty of Analytics to support the development and maintaining of a community of practice in relation to Data Analytics, being the custodian of relevant best practice methodologies and tools.
5. Support the use of best practice data analysis across CITI, and ensure that all programmes report their progress and impact consistently and across a number of balanced metrics such as: quality, efficiency, effectiveness, safety, sustainability, patient and staff experience, etc.
6. Develop understanding of the concepts, methodologies, skills and techniques involved the delivery of other CITI functions (incl. innovation)
7. Build Data Analytics networks across the Trust and externally to help support consistency and maximise our impact.
Programme and Project planning responsibilities
1. Lead on the data analytics necessary to formulate programme strategies, aims and objectives; including identifying key programme metrics, defining baseline and establishing targets.
2. Evaluate and analyse highly complex and contentious issues using tested and credible tools, including expertise in analytic tools, benchmarking and sources of healthcare data.
3. Being directly responsible for the design of strategies for data collection, collation and analysis as well as the development and implementation of plans to provide analytic support to a number of complex programmes and projects – throughout their lifecycles
4. Be responsible for the adequate resourcing of analytical support on all CITI projects and programmes, and ensure they carry out analytics
5. Lead on the development of measurement frameworks and tools such as Business Information Dashboards to support programme teams to monitor their progress and impact, and to aid strategic and tactical decision making.
6. Provide support in the data extraction from multiple sources to promote the use of user-friendly data reporting platforms.
7. Include qualitative data gathering and collation in data analytics, including summarising research to inform the development and promotion of best practice.
8. Lead on the analysis to support developing business cases for new areas of work and document and present to relevant authorities using prescribed formats.
9. Use data analysis knowledge to continuously improve the approach to project management and delivery.
Programme and Project management responsibilities
1. Lead on the establishment of data reporting mechanisms to support the programme and project operating rhythms and governance structure.
2. Be responsible for highlighting and managing project and workstream risks and issues that pertain to the use of data, clearly documenting and communicating escalations to the Programme or Project Manager as required.
3. Support the Programme and Project management to escalate risks as appropriate to other governing bodies and relevant stakeholders across the organisation and externally.
4. Produce high-quality written documentation for a wide range of audiences. This will include project reports, communications, business cases, bids for funding and explanations of technical and complex issues.
5. Utilise data analysis to inform recommendations and present findings at all levels throughout the Trust including to senior clinical and management audiences.
Management of benefits and dependencies across programmes and projects
1. Lead on the development of the measurement framework to baseline performance against agreed balanced metrics, track impact of the projects and monitor the realisation of benefits.
2. Lead on the development and implementation of data collection plans where there are gaps and provide complex level of analysis of large and complex data sets.
3. Responsible for ensuring data quality required by the programmes and projects.
4. Taking the lead in using a range of analytical and reporting software and bringing together internal and external datasets, to deliver insightful analysis that support performance monitoring, transformation and improvement for a number of Clinical Groups, projects and programmes across the Trust.
5. This will require the post-holder to develop data insights and analytical tools that support performance management (e.g. delivery to time, cost and quality) as well as the prioritisation and delivery of change.
6. To lead and work with others to use data to understand and track complex interdependencies between different initiatives and different parts of the organisation or sector.
Programme and project contributions, communication and relationship management
1. Work with CITI Senior Management to identify, develop and maintain stakeholder relationships on behalf of CITI, specifically where it can advance the team’s use of data and ability to make data-driven decisions.
2. Confidently and coherently present complex data sets and analysis outputs to relevant forums, including when communicating regular programme updates (incl. risks) to all stakeholders which would involve imparting sensitive and complex information.
3. Be responsible for making informed recommendations to clients that are based on credible evidence including the analysis of highly complex data.
4. Build effective working relationships with divisions and other stakeholders using communication skills to negotiate, influence and reach consensus across senior leaders and project stakeholders.
5. Design, facilitate and lead workshops, stakeholder events and programme meetings with a wide range of stakeholders
6. Use data analysis outputs, as well as negotiation and persuasion skills to gain support for the across the breadth of stakeholders, including patients, providers and commissioners.
7. Lead the engagement with relevant staff in divisions to identify issues with data capture and quality; identifying improvements that promote standardisation at an organisational level.
8. Support CITI’s strategies for transparent patient involvement and continual improvement of patient/carer (customer) experience, working with the Patient and Public Engagement and Involvement Team to ensure the adequate extraction and analysis of relevant patient experience data.
Resource management and team responsibilities
1. Provide line management to CITI Analysts, supporting their capability development as well as the development of the wider CITI team
2. Be responsible for providing analytical service to the Senior Leadership of CITI so they can monitor, track and report the impact the function is making at an aggregated level
3. Lead the analysis that informs the prioritisation process for CITI by collating and analysis performance data from across the Trust
4. Work with the Senior Delivery Managers to ensure projects are appropriately resourced throughout their lifecycle, escalating to the Associate Directors of Delivery where applicable
5. Work with the Senior Delivery Managers to plan and allocate staff and other resources for assigned projects, monitoring work allocation and escalating where necessary to ensure effective resource utilisation and successful delivery to time, cost and quality
6. Work with the Associate Director of Delivery to support the CITI Innovation Director to prioritise analytics resource to support innovation and commercialisation projects
7. Work with the Associate Director of Delivery to support the GSTT productivity unit and other analytic functions within the Clinical Groups
8. Manage blended programme and project teams, including resource from CITI, clinical operational colleagues, external SMEs and other project resources; ensuring all members have clear responsibilities and timescales
9. Support the delivery of data analytics training; supporting, mentoring and modelling best practice to both CITI staff and external stakeholders and partners.
10. Provide support to the development of capability for more junior members of the team.
11. Manage the recruitment process of CITI team members, particularly Analysts, working alongside HR as appropriate, ensuring all relevant HR procedures are followed.
Financial and supplier responsibilities
1. Responsible for monitoring and analysing budgets as part of financial project control measures and maximising the use of resources to ensure project budgets are managed effectively.
2. Work with the Senior Delivery Managers to ensure that project related business plans are underpinned by detailed and robust financial plans through budget planning and negotiation of appropriate budgets.
3. Act as the budget holder for responsible areas of the project, managing, monitoring and reporting on spend against budgets and escalating any issues (in line with financial instructions); ensuring all project resources fall within the agreed spend on resources.
4. Lead the procurement of any services or suppliers that contribute to the delivery of programmes, particularly in regards to analytical support, and ensure appropriate sign offs.
5. Support managing key supplier relationships from a project perspective. This should include monitoring against contract KPIs and working with the Senior Delivery Manager and Associate Directors of Delivery to escalate performance issues and supporting fast resolution of problems.
