Job overview
As the Deputy Chief Midwifery Information Officer (DCMidIO), the post holder will play a crucial role in driving the digital transformation of midwifery and maternity services within NHS England and the broader healthcare system. Working under the leadership of the Chief Midwifery Information Officer (CMidIO), they will provide operational leadership within a core digital nursing and midwifery workstream, directly contributing to the CNIO's vision:
To ensure nurses and midwives have the knowledge and skills to practice and lead in a digitally enabled health and care system.
To ensure midwifery practice is fully supported by digital technology and data science.
Advert
Develop and Implement Strategies: Working within the overall strategic framework established by the CMidIO, the postholder will devise, implement, and monitor operational strategies for the assigned digital midwifery workstream, actively evaluate and interpret best practices.
Performance Management and Reporting: Develop and implement quantitative and qualitative measures to assess progress against the strategy.
Promoting Best Practices: Collaborate with colleagues across regional, LMNS, and national level to ensure best practices in digital midwifery are developed and implemented effectively. This may involve influencing and persuading senior managers to realign practices when necessary.
Process Improvement and Efficiency: The post holder will play a key role in driving process improvements and efficiency within their assigned workstream. This includes overseeing the continuous development of end-to-end cycles and their associated performance metrics.
Policy and Procedure Management: In collaboration with the CMidIO, contribute to developing and updating policies and procedures related to digital midwifery, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Strategic Planning and Budgeting: Support the CMidIO in creating and implementing operational plans and providing strategic and policy advice relevant to the National Director's portfolio.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the assigned digital nursing and midwifery workstream, ensuring its effective delivery and alignment with the CMidIO's overall strategy.
Collaborating effectively with cross-system partners and stakeholders to co-design national working systems, policies, and strategic programmes specifically for digital midwifery.
Support the development and the implementation of systems to ensure information is properly managed and best practices are shared across the health and care system.
Providing senior professional leadership, advice, and guidance to the programme and wider nursing and midwifery teams.
Ensuring an across-directorate, joined-up approach to relevant national programmes within the organisation, particularly within the Maternity and Neonatal Programme.
Supporting the CMidIO in providing operational and strategic midwifery leadership across NHS England and the health and care system, with a specific focus on the digital transformation of maternity and neonatal services.
Contributing to effective communication efforts for the National NHS England Digital Nursing and Midwifery Team, both internally and across key stakeholders.
Supporting the broader delivery priorities and vision of the Chief Nursing Information Officer for England, as needed.
Information Management and Communication:
Data Analysis and Reporting: Lead the creation, maintenance, and review of information systems used to collect, evaluate, and interpret complex data relevant to the workstream. These insights will inform short, medium, and long-term strategic decision-making.
Effective Communication: Develop and present reports that summarise status updates, evaluate outcomes, and provide progress reports for senior management. Tailor communication style and content to effectively engage with various audiences.
Research and Development: Knowledge Sharing and Innovation: Ensure the team has access to best practices and current information within the field of digital midwifery. Seek opportunities to leverage expertise from other sectors and industries, promoting innovation within the organisation and across stakeholder groups.
Research Initiatives: Collaborate with the CMidIO in identifying areas where research and development initiatives can lead to cost and service improvements. This may involve exploring new service models or refining existing processes.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Building Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including those involved in complex, sensitive, and confidential matters.
Collaboration and Expertise Sharing: Participate in relevant internal and external working groups to share expertise and contribute to project development, information management, and analytical tasks.
Effective Communication: Present information and complex issues clearly and concisely to a wide range of stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
Best Practice Sharing: Collaborate with other managers to promote the exchange of best practices and foster a continuous learning environment.

- Educated to BSc degree level or equivelant
- Educated to or studying MSc in relelvant field
- Qualification in programme Management qualification or equivelent experience managing complex programmes/projects

Essential criteria
- Senior management or leadership experience in maternity healthcare, with a proven track record of success at the LMNS, regional, or national level.
- Must have a good understanding of the national nursing, midwifery and social care staff policy and values and their delivery across a range of systems
- Possesses significant experience in driving digital transformation within the midwifery workforce. This experience should demonstrate a deep understanding of the professional issues and opportunities associated with digital adoption in maternity care.
- Possess a strong understanding of business and programme management, with demonstrable experience in budget management, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and programme delivery.
