Are you a therapy support worker with an interest in nutrition and dietetics? Or a Dietetic Assistant looking for a different experience in the community? We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and self-driven individual to join our Learning Disabilities team. You will work closely within our team of dietitians, dietetic practitioners, apprentices, and nutrition nurses. Service users are seen in a variety of settings within Birmingham including their own homes, day centres, care homes, respite units, clinics, and colleges. An ability to travel around the City transporting scales and other equipment, is essential to the role.
This post will involve delivering dietetic care independently and tasks as delegated by the community dietitians to assist in providing a quality dietetic service to service users. You will manage your own varied caseload which includes nutritional support, dysphagia, enteral feeding, and weight management, with the support and guidance of senior clinicians.
This post will allow you to establish and enjoy the close relationship built with service users and their carers and to be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team. There are opportunities to spend time with specialist teams to enhance your professional growth.

Advert
To work as part of the dietetic team to improve the nutritional intake of service users identified by the dietitian within care homes, day centres, service users own homes and respite units.
To contribute to ongoing implementation and evaluation of delegated caseload and reporting all clinical outcomes to managing dietitian to support re-assessments for people with learning disabilities.
To undertake clinical intervention utilising a variety of modes, including planning and leading groups and individual training as part of a package of care to include enteral tube management after achieving appropriate competencies evaluated by dietitians.
To deliver training and education on nutritional screening, good feeding practice and in raising the importance of nutrition.
To use knowledge and behaviour change skills to help patients cope with their condition, by overcoming practical and emotional barriers to improve their nutritional intake.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is expected to deliver dietetic care and tasks as delegated by the Learning Disability Dietitians, to assist in providing a quality dietetic service to individuals or groups of people with learning disabilities and their carers, whose needs cannot be met by mainstream dietetic services.

- • Level 3 qualification (eg NVQ, A level, Diploma) in a related subject (health or food)
