Job overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity for the post of an Assistant Psychologist in the Paediatric Liaison Team, based at the Royal London Children’s Hospital, Whitechapel.
The appointment is at a band 5 and is suitable for psychology graduates with a BPS approved undergraduate degree and some experience of working with children and families. The post will provide opportunity to gain experience in clinical psychology, specifically working with young people with physical health conditions and their families.
The successful candidate will support clinicians in the team to triage referrals and ensure a smooth referral pathway alongside assisting in providing specialist assessment and psychological intervention to children who have chronic and acute physical health conditions and their families and contributing to psychologically informed care as part of the MDT.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has excellent skills in communication, an interest in working with children and physical health, an enthusiasm for multidisciplinary work and an interest in developing effective, innovative, accessible and efficient services with good quality outcomes for children, young people and families. The Royal London Hospital serves a diverse population in East London and we would welcome applications from candidates who speak languages represented in the local community including, Bangladeshi, Somali and Arabic.

The Paediatric Liaison Team is a multidisciplinary team, including clinical and counselling psychologists, psychiatry and mental health nursing, which provides assessment, intervention and consultation for young people experiencing mental health difficulties or emotional distress associated with a physical health conditions who are under the care of the Royal London Hospital.
This post will contribute to the working of the Paediatric Liaison Team, both by supporting clinical work the team are providing with children and families and to support the team with evaluation or the service and data collection. The post holder will contribute to systems designed to evaluate the service, such as the design and maintainence of information monitoring systems, including the management of data.
The team Assistant Psychologist will contribute to the development of the service, specifically focusing on evaluation, routine outcome monitoring, data management and analysis. This will involve the use of formal data analysis and presentation. It is important that the post holder has degree-level knowledge of psychological research, experience completing research and clinical audits and service evaluation.
Clinical work may involve conduting triage assessments of CYP referred to the service and supporting qualified clinicians in conducting psychological assessments and interventions with children and families.

Although this position is a 18 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks.
