Job overview
We are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and dynamic team to develop their career as a Sonographer. The successful applicant will undertake a CASE accredited Post Graduate Certificate in Medical or Gynaecology Ultrasound through a well-structured and full-time training programme that consists of a blend of academic study days at the university and clinical placement within the Royal London, St Bartholomew’s & Mile End Hospital) ultrasound department & NEL Ultrasound Training Academy (hosted at Whipps Cross Hospital).
The Community Diagnostic centre ultrasound department based at MEH is a Non-Obstetric Ultrasound service running 7 days a week, 12 hours shift pattern. The Sonographers within the Networked ultrasound department are an experienced and supportive team, who will work to facilitate your learning. You will also be assigned a supervisor who, alongside the Clinical Lead Sonographers and CDC
Sonographer practice Educator with support from the NEL Sonography Practice Educators, will regularly assess your progress and discuss learning objectives with you throughout the training period.
Upon successful completion of the Post Graduate certificate qualification & an agreed set of link grade competencies, you will move into a Band 7 Sonographer post based at the Community Diagnostic centre ultrasound service in Mile end Hospital 7 days 12 hour contract however you will
be required to attain these within the necessary timeframe (9 or 12 -months depending on the university your academic programme being undertaken). As a newly qualified Sonographer you will be supported through a preceptorship programme, following which you will work autonomously
within your scope of practice and be expected to participate in the delivery of a high-quality ultrasound service.
Our Sonographers are encouraged to rotate through all areas and offer a comprehensive range of ultrasound examinations including gynaecology, obstetrics general abdominal, DVT and small parts. We actively encourage & support CPD & role development in areas such as MSK, paediatrics, head & neck, neonatal hips, cranial and carotid ultrasound.

To undertake and successfully complete a CASE accredited Post Graduate Certificate in Medical or Gynaecology Ultrasound and an agreed set of link grade competencies through block or day release academic study, self-directed study and clinical placement within the ultrasound department to be able to progress into a B7 Sonographer post following the 9 or 12 months training period (dependent on the programme being undertaken). The training post is funded by the Community Diagnostic centre in Mile end hospital a Non obstetric Ultrasound service running a 7 day 12 hour shift pattern.
The post holder will perform, under the supervision of a qualified Sonographer, a range of ultrasound examinations in line with nationally established guidelines and quality standards of practice and local departmental protocols. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and contributing to a safe, high quality and efficient ultrasound service that provides high professional standard of care ensuring that the appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. The post holder will also promote patient-centered care and uphold the Trusts values, communicating effectively with patients, relatives, carers and other healthcare professionals always.
All trainees are expected to rotate through the NEL Ultrasound Training Academy, based at Whipps Cross Hospital are part of their clinical placement. They will liaise closely with their line manager, supervisor and the NEL Sonography Practice Educators to ensure that their academic targets are met and are linked with clinical progress to ensure timely qualification

Essential criteria
- • Science or Health Care based undergraduate degree at 2:1 or higher.
- • If undergraduate degree is less than a 2:1, evidence of further postgraduate study must be provided.
- • Statutory registration with a regulatory body (such as HCPC or NMC).
Experience

- • Clinical experience post completion of undergraduate qualification
- • Attendance at an Ultrasound Taster Day and/or work experience within an ultrasound department.

- • Completion of e-learning for healthcare ultrasound modules.
- • Experience of challenging conversations / delivering difficult news to patients, carers and relatives.
