An exciting opportunity has arisen within Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 3 highly motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologists to work in one of our three Cared for Children’s CAMHS teams for a period of 6 months. We are seeking someone with an interest in developing therapeutic skills and supporting the teams in their functioning.
MFT CAMHS provides three targeted services to support the emotional and behavioural needs of children and young people cared for by Manchester City Council (CAMHS LAC), Salford Council (Starlac) and Trafford Council (Trafford CAMHS CiC). These are well established multi-disciplinary teams of staff offering assessment, intervention, consultation and training. Short term monies have been secured to support new developments across the teams.

This post involves working in one of the three bases to support the teams in service provision. The post holder will be involved clinically with young people and their carers, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist and will be given appropriate supervision to enable the successful performance of clinical and other duties. The post holder will be expected to manage databases, develop new systems as required, analyse information and present results to the clinical team. The post holder will also be expected to assist the teams in the preparation, instigation and evaluation of a variety of clinical, teaching and research tasks.

Essential criteria
Meini prawf hanfodol
- Good psychology degree (2:1 or above)
- Good knowledge of developmental and abnormal psychology
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with psychological difficulties and trauma
- Some experience in working with children and with people with mental health problems
- Experience in using computer software packages
- Experience of descriptive statistical analysis
- Ability to search through complex data sources including case notes
- Able to work to deadlines
- Ability to work with people from different background and of different ages, and with people with mental health or psychological difficulties.
- Good communication and social skills (oral and written) Ability to establish effective relationships with children and adults
- Good organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize work according to fixed time-scales
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff across CAMHS
- A commitment to undertake further relevant training and self-directed study.
- Punctual and flexible across hours of work when required.
- A commitment to the inclusion of young people’s, parent/carer views in service delivery, development and design.
- Willingness to contribute to team functioning, performance and the ongoing development of the service.
- Ability to travel across the MFT footprint and offer home visits.
- Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies.
