We are looking for an experienced and motivated and flexible Occupational Therapist to join our adult inpatient acute orthopaedic Team.
Initially, you will be based on Wards 22 and 23 acute trauma at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, but you will also then be expected to be able to cover elective orthopaedics at Freeman Hospital if needed.
As well as using all of your core OT skills, this job requires knowledge of the impact of orthopaedic trauma on function , which means that you are able to experience of skills, such as;
- Different weight bearing status
- Using and interpreting standardised cognitive and perceptual assessments and planning purposeful therapy to assist development of the patient’s skills
- Educating the wider MDT regarding the patient’s specific difficulties
You will have considerable post registration experience in the acute hospital setting, strong personal management and communication skills.
Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure are also essential requirements of this post.

To be an active member of the inter-disciplinary team to ensure a consistent, equitable and high quality evidence based service is developed to meet the needs of patients.
To be responsible for own continued professional development and facilitate a learning culture within the team undertaking audit and practice development.
To provide day to day supervision of junior staff and students working in the specialist area.
To provide highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care.

- The specialist practitioner is a clinical lead for the Occupational Therapy Service within orthopaedics providing highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care.
