Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Job overview
This post is for a Band 7 Clinical Educator for Savannah Surgery, Spinal & Orthopaedic services.
Our nursing team consists of registered nurses, registered nurses associates and senior nursing assistants. All of these groups are very keen to further develop their skills and knowledge in order to provide high quality of care to our patients.
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic nurse who has passion and experience in education and further development of training programmes within our services of: Paediatric General Surgery, Spinal & Orthopaedics.
We are proud of our two HDU areas; one for General Surgery and one for Spinal & Orthopaedic, where we admit patients with complex fluid management, central lines, parental nutrition with electrolyte monitoring, complex pain management (Epidural, PCA/NCA), non-invasive ventilation, complex management of seizure and dystonia post anaesthetics and more.
The role of clinical educator will be to continue facilitation of relevant training, reviewing the education gap analysis, and have some experience and understanding of the conditions for our services.
We will welcome you in our team, and you will work closely with our Evelina Education Team, who will also support you greatly.

The successful candidate will be a source of highly specialist clinical and educational knowledge and will provide clinical supervision.
You will be responsible for the development and co-ordination of training programmes for staff in conjunction with Evelina Education Team.
You will work closely with Ward Sisters and Matron to ensure training programmes are established to train staff and meet statutory training requirements, as well as individual service training needs and personal development.
We have a number of newly qualified nurses, and you will tailor a programme of orientation for new staff members and arrange an ongoing programme of training for qualified and unqualified staff. As well as overseas nurses requiring adaptation in the care and management of patients within our specialities.
Previous experience in clinical education is highly recommended.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will need to lead and take continuing responsibility for the in-service development of all nursing staff working within the area of specialty.
To provide leadership and motivation to establish clinical practices, which is research/evidence-based and lead to standard setting and regular audit in line with the Trust’s commitment to Clinical Governance.
To monitor and review clinical and professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and instituting remedial action where necessary.
The post holder will need to be confident working with multidisciplinary health professionals both face to face and via virtual platforms.
