Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. We are seeking experienced nurses with a strong background in Haematology and Oncology Nursing to join our team. Ideal candidates will have the expertise to deliver advanced nursing services in the specialised areas of cell therapies and complex immunotherapies. Experience in the delivery of systemic anticancer therapy is essential and post-registration qualifications in Oncology or Haematology is also required.
This position will be part of our dedicated cell therapy team, reporting to the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in cell therapy. As a specialist nurse, you will play a key role in delivering expert care in cell therapies and complex immunotherapies, managing and coordinating treatment plans for a caseload of patients referred for these therapies.
As a CNS you will need to have an understanding of oncological & haematological conditions and treatments, have good communication skills, and patient assessment skills. We require a nurse who is flexible, dynamic, self-motivated and reliable in addition to being passionate about nursing and the patient experience. If you enjoy working within a multidisciplinary team, and in a service that is continually striving to improve care for our patients, this post is for you.

You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication across the specialty teams, multidisciplinary teams, referring hospitals, local cancer networks, and tertiary referral centres. Your role will also involve providing support, advice, and education to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary care for patients and their carers. This role will involve supporting with horizon planning for treatments across the treatment areas as well as supporting the delivery of some treatments.

The main purpose of the role is to act as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), providing expert treatment and care, coordination and support for patients receiving systemic anticancer therapy
The role will involve effective teamwork and communication with a wide spectrum of multidisciplinary teams. The post holder will be required to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise when identifying and caring for the specific needs of patients and their families.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. This post offers an excellent opportunity to engage in planning, delivery and evaluation of treatment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, senior nursing experience, knowledge of cancer and treatments and the ability to work sensitively and collaboratively with diverse teams is essential.
Previous experience in Haematology/ Oncology and chemotherapy along with evidence of a high level of clinical expertise and continuing professional development are considered essential to this role.
