An opportunity has arisen to join the adult acute speech and language therapy team within Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust at this exciting time of change and development.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking, qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join us. Our staff team delivers high quality services to adults with acquired communication and swallowing problems across Northumberland and North Tyneside, working in a variety of settings, including acute / hyperacute hospital settings, rehabilitation teams, outpatient clinics, nursing homes and clients own homes.

This post will be rotational across the Trust, mainly focussing on stroke care in both hyper acute and acute rehab hospital settings. Our stroke service focuses on streamlined, connected, patient centred care through each step of the patient’s stroke journey from admission to hospital, acute rehabilitation and facilitating their ongoing care on discharge. The Northumbria stroke team is a highly experienced MDT who deliver an evidence based and holistic service in line with national guidance and SSNAP targets. Alongside opportunities to be responsible for managing acute and rehabilitation caseloads, there will be opportunities to be involved in audit and quality improvement projects.
This post offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills with an acute adult acquired caseload within the context of a supportive SLT team and as part of a collaborative MDT. You will be supported to develop clinical competencies in the areas of hyper acute dysphagia and communication management, and acute stroke rehabilitation of complex dysphagia and communication impairments. There will be support to develop skills in videofluoroscopy, fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallow, and areas such as leadership, clinical supervision and education. You will be provided with structured support and supervision, with opportunities to work with specialist / expert therapists with support from therapy assistants.

The post holder will be based in the SLT department in the acute service.
The successful candidate will need to be able to meet the travel requirements of the post as there is a requirement to travel between sites. Weekend working will also be a requirement.
Essential Criteria:
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent
- Health and Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice
- Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses or equivalent experience in the management of acquired swallowing and communication conditions.
- Car driver
