The post holder will develop and implement effective strategy and operational policies for pharmacy (and prescribing) education and training across the region and local offices.
Working closely with colleagues to ensure the development and implementation of a coherent strategy the post holder will:
- Provide national and regional professional leadership for pharmacy and prescribing education and training across the country and region
- Ensures that the strategy supports and ensures alignment of operational policies across the system where necessary and supports local innovation where appropriate.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Contribute to the development and lead the implementation of the NHSE mandate and relevant national policies in relation to pharmacy and prescribing through:
- implementation of the national recruitment and selection scheme
effective and targeted education of the current pharmacy workforce establishment and effective working of education across the region and ensure cross geographic representation of key and relevant stakeholder groups through the appropriate regional and structures - effective business planning for the Regional teams representing NHSE in local, regional and national for a working in partnership with PG Deans and other professional and education leads in the local teams
- Drive reform and support organisational change and uptake of initiatives that support excellence, including working with the national programme teams
- Develop and communicate the vision for the role of innovation, and the development of strategy and operational policies to support this vision
- Engage with key strategic regional and national policy makers to inform development of strategy and policies
Identify examples of national and international best practice and ensure that the NHS benefits from relevant innovations in education & training - Support development by developing the innovation infrastructure and capacity in organisations and develop and champion new initiatives or projects as necessary
- Work with providers and clinical experts to design new training products as necessary
- Provide expertise of best practice methodologies regulatory requirements, policy imperatives, innovation and technological developments and stakeholders knowledge
- Participate in the overall management structure of the region as required.
- Working in a matrix management structure, fulfil the role of Pharmacy Business Partner to a local office in the region
- Advise on the development needs of the pharmacy professions in order to meet current and future configurations of healthcare and the future workforce to ensure that educational provision meets the standards of the appropriate professional regulators and to lead education in support of innovative practice in healthcare.
- Support the work of the local Quality Teams, and where appropriate lead local quality visits for pharmacy, to support implementation of the NHSE Education Quality Strategy in pharmacy
- Provide expert insight, understanding and experience in relation to the pharmacy workforce and its education to the governing body and senior leadership teams as required
- Be responsible for the delivery of named NHSE projects e.g. GP Clinical Pharmacists, Community Pharmacy Workforce Mapping, Urgent Care Pharmacists
- Provide professional expertise and workforce intelligence in relation to the pharmacy workforce to the workforce planning team.
- Ensure that NHSE commissioned pharmacy and prescribing programmes reflect current and future service models
- Ensure that foundation and preregistration pharmacist training and non-medical prescribing programmes meet NHSE commissioning quality requirements, the regulatory standards of the Regulatory Bodies. and other relevant legal and statutory frameworks
- Ensure that appropriate governance arrangements are in place to support pharmacy education and that any associated risks are identified and reviewed on a regular basis.
- Ensure that trainees in difficulty are identified and robust processes are in place to support them

- Demonstrated experience of leading programmes in highly complex and challenging environments to enable the multiple strands of the programme across hospital and community service providers to be coherently delivered, whilst recognising the many external factors influencing the outcomes of the workstreams within the programme.
