An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic MHST clinical lead to join our existing MHST within Waltham Forest CAMHS.
We are looking for a compassionate and innovative Clinical Lead who has a particular interest in prevention and early intervention, promoting positive mental health and wellbeing from both a universal and targeted approach. The candidate will have experience and knowledge of the health and education systems, as well as having knowledge of delivering and supervising brief interventions to children and young people who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
MHSTs aims to:
- Support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems through evidence-based interventions
- Support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health
- Provide timely advice to school staff and to liaise with other services to help children and young people get the right help and stay in education.

Work in partnership with current Clinical Lead and Head of CAMHS, to manage and over see the delivery of MHSTs within the locality adopting an integrated approach with wider systems and networks.
Work in partnership with schools, to support children, young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
Work in partnership with schools, children, young people, and families in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.
To oversee the formulation and treatment and management plans for schools, parents, children, and young people being supported by the senior team members - using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service, individual and group.
Working for our organisation
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement – London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This MHST team lead post is designed to support the clinical development and delivery of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in Waltham Forest. We are looking to recruit an applicant with expertise in the delivery of CBT or psychological talking therapies to children and young people (CYP) and their families to manage anxiety, low mood, and behavioural problems. Experience in delivering clinical and management supervision and experience conducting clinical audits and evaluating research data is highly desirable to inform the delivery and development of clinical services.
The post holder will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the delivery of evidence-based interventions in schools/colleges and providing supervision to members of the senior clinical team in Waltham Forest. The post holder will be responsible for developing the MHSTs to facilitate wider service transformation within the local child mental health system – this will be in conjunction with service leads and managers. The aim is to foster the integration of clinical and educational principles to support CYP with mental health concerns and develop pathways that encourage a positive needs-based approach to accessing mental health provision for CYP.
The post holder would be expected to work closely with the current MHST clinical lead and Head of CAMHS in Waltham Forest as well as the key stakeholders, such as the educational leads, local authority, and clinical leads within NELFT. They would also be expected to contribute to the training opportunities available for more junior members of staff to support their development. For Clinical Psychology applicants the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and DClinPsy Trainees would form part of this role, as part of increasing access to psychological therapies for CYP and supporting psychological workforce development.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
The successful candidate may have the opportunity to attend relevant courses to fulfil the requirements of the training element of the post including practical, academic, and practice-based assessments.
Support senior staff in the co-delivery of training sessions. This will include attendance at practice skills sessions, involvement in formative feedback sessions with teaching staff, and co-production of elements of the curriculum.
Service Development and Management
Under the direction of the service and clinical lead , to support the strategic and practical development of the MHST initiative within the service and wider children’s mental health system.
To manage and screen referrals into the MHST.
To help manage the day-to-day running of the Mental Health Support Team at an operational level.
To regulate and manage the case load of the seniors and EMHPs.
To take a lead in monitoring clinical outcomes and activity data from the work of the new team.
