Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Are you interested in cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation? Looking for a new challenge? If so, we could have the job for you.
This post in the Directorate of Rehabilitation and Therapies offers the opportunity for an established Band 6, or experienced Band 5 physiotherapist to join our dynamic team at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex and to develop further clinically, supervising junior staff and students and contributing to key departmental projects.
The successful physiotherapist will join our team of physiotherapists, exercise professionals, nurses and practitioners working with patients form cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, transplantation and ventricular assist devices. They will be treating a wide variety of patients in an outpatient setting from routine to complex (with support of senior staff) with an opportunity to work across our NHS and private service.

This person will need good organisational and communication skills and the ability to work as a member of a team. Experience of delivering group exercise sessions and exercise testing would be advantageous. There is regular supervision, training and support from highly skilled senior physiotherapist/exercise professionals to address learning needs and you will be expected to work closely with the other members of our MDT. This is an excellent opportunity for a physiotherapist who is enthusiastic and interested in developing their expertise in cardiac rehabilitation including prevention and education.

Harefield Hospital is a relatively small hospital (approx. 160 beds) with a friendly open culture situated in a village accessible by public transport, near to Uxbridge and Watford and very close to the M25 and M40. There is also on-site staff parking. The trust actively promotes CPD, with access to funding for courses, up to 10 days study leave (pro rata) and opportunities to participate in research and quality improvement. We also have a private service based on Wimpole Street.

To work across Harefield Hospital assessing and treating a wide range of out-patients including those with multiple comorbidities across cardio-thoracic surgery / cardiology, transplantation and ventricular assist devices.
To independently perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of outpatients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions to provide a diagnosis and deliver an individualised and specialised treatment programme of care.
To manage own clinical/non clinical caseload and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review. Access to advice and support from a senior multi-professional staff if required. Clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner with freedom to act on own interpretation of data.
To supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with Universities to ensure standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by degree level qualification.
To supervise, educate and appraise the performance/competence of junior physiotherapists/exercise professionals/practitioners on a daily basis.
