Deputy Ward Manager
An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic individuals to join a newly modernised Child and Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient service, Brookside, in Goodmayes, Ilford, Essex.
Brookside has been recognised both across London and Nationally for its quality service provision and CQC rated "outstanding" practice. Providing both an innovative home treatment team and a 15 bedded acute ward for children and young people, it’s a leading service which provides treatment and prevention support within the NELFT London catchment areas as well as inpatient care nationally.
The successful candidates will work with young people aged between 12-18 years, their families and carers, with acute emotional, psychological and behavioural difficulties. There is scope within the job role to take part in formalised therapeutic contact with young people and carers. This will enhance the applicant’s future career planning and/or academic endeavours. The successful candidates will form part of multi-disciplinary team offering inpatient and Home Treatment Team care through intensive multi-disciplinary interventions and a structured daily programme with a central educational basis. We are looking for candidates who have enthusiasm and passion for meeting the needs of acutely unwell young people, as well as being adaptable, enjoy variety, can work independently, as well as understanding the relevance of team working.

- A minimum of one years experience working as a Nurse, preferably within a CAMHS and/or crisis setting.
- To act as a leader and role model to the nursing team on a shiftly basis under the guidance of the Ward Manager
- Complete clinical audit and contribute to the governance processes.
- To deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence to include chairing meetings and undertaking management roles.
- To manage the HR systems of the Ward including staffing, sickness, performance related issues, annual leave reporting this by exception to the Ward Manager.
- To provide clinical and safeguarding supervision (upon completion of training) and Mentor junior staff and students.
-To complete 5 days of Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course which is yearly updated and implement in practice as required.
-To work shifts over a 365 day a year basis including night duty
-To undertake assessment of client’s needs and support nurses in formulating appropriate individual care plans taking on a holistic approach.
- Ensure that relatives and carers of service user and feel able to communicate effectively with the clinical area to answer any queries or concerns.
- Appropriate IT skills to ensure accurate documentation and communication around a young person’s care
-Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of staff, patients and to the ward.
-Work alongside service users and carers/relatives to continually work towards improving and maintaining high standards.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High-Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735).
