Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Hepatology

Birmingham Children's Hospital is currently seeking to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Hepatology to join the department in January 2025 on a fixed-term contract for a duration of 9 months with the potential extension to 12 months.

This post is an additional post to join the existing post-graduate medical team of 3 senior trainees (ST5-8), 2 junior trainees (ST2-3) and 2 Physician associates working in the speciality services of the Paediatric Hepatology Department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with both medical and surgical teams.

Applicants will possess MRCPCH part 2 or equivalent and will be expected to have significant experience in paediatrics. Experience in paediatric hepatology and/or gastroenterology would be desirable.

Duties will include:

Day to day management of children with all forms of liver disease

·       Examination and clinical assessment of in-patients 

·       Cannulation and phlebotomy of paediatric patients 

·       Requesting and chasing investigations 

·       Presenting patients on ward routine

·       TThe peri-operative care of children receiving liver transplantation, and liver and small bowel transplantation. 

·        Presenting patients for MDT meetings including formal transplant assessment presentations.

·       The admission of acute and elective patients.

·       The timely summary letters of discharges from the ward.

·       Providing specialist advice in the form of telephone consultations from the extensive catchment area. Appropriate discussion with the on-call consultant and the follow up of referred patients

·       Attending theatre lists to gain experience in liver biopsy and therapeutic endoscopy

·       Outpatient clinics with preparation and feedback to the named consultant at the Thursday outpatient review

·       Immunosuppression prescribing
