We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
The appointees will join the current team of fifteen adult cardiothoracic anaesthetists and intensivists who provide cardiothoracic anaesthesia, intensive care and some non-cardiothoracic anaesthetic services. Applicants should have the FRCA (or equivalent), possess or be eligible for the CCST in anaesthesia, and must have completed a minimum of one year subspecialty training in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, as well as experience in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.

· The post is suitable for those candidates who wish to pursue a career in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and cardiac intensive care. This post is required to continue to develop and support the department for significant cardiac and thoracic surgical workload.
· The on-call consultant rota will be undertaken in conjunction with other consultant colleagues to provide cover for emergency work including transplantation in cardiothoracic theatres, cardiology catheter labs and cardiac critical care areas.
· There is a significant commitment to research, audit and training of Trust Grade doctors, specialist trainees and critical care practitioners.

Clinical:
· Provision of anaesthesia for a wide spectrum of cardiac, cardiology and thoracic surgical procedures including thoracic transplantation and MCS
· Provision of Intensive Care for a wide spectrum of complex postoperative surgical patients including transplantation, short and long-term MCS as well as critically ill cardiology and heart failure patients
Administrative:
· Active and consistent engagement with clinical governance and audit
· Regular commitment to continuing medical education
· Evidence of reflective practice
Research:
· Significant involvement in clinical research
· Presentations at regional and national meetings
· Experience of conducting research projects
Teaching:
· Ability to participate in the current teaching programs within the Directorate and the Trust.

Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
