About

Welcome to Powys Teaching Health Board!

Powys Teaching Health Board is responsible for meeting the health and wellbeing needs of the people of Powys, mid Wales. As a rural health board with around 133,000 people living across an area that is a quarter of Wales, we provide as many services as possible locally.  This is mainly through GPs and other primary care services, community hospitals and community services.  As we don’t have a District General Hospital, we work closely with other organisations in Wales and England to provide services for the people of Powys. We always strive to deliver as many services in Powys as possible including assessment and follow ups after treatment. The health board also works closely with Powys County Council and the voluntary sector to meet the needs of the community.

Life in Powys

Powys is the largest county in Wales, with Snowdonia to the North and the Brecon Brecons to the South, the spectacular scenery is something to be proud of.  Take advantage of the outdoors, walking, running, canoeing, climbing, biking or how about your own small holding?  Powys is a giant playground just waiting to be enjoyed.

Powys offers many outdoor activities, Thriving in creative arts, the beautiful scenery attracts writers and artists, and there are music festivals, arts events and numerous agricultural shows held right across the county every summer. The internationally famous literary festival runs every May in Hay-on-Wye, and we also have the popular Royal Welsh Show as well as The Green Man festival and Gregynog so there really is something to suit every taste!

It doesn’t stop there, Abergavenny hosts an annual food festival in September and Ludlow is on our doorstep; Powys people are rightly proud of their award-winning local produce, including Graig Farm organic meat, Llanfaes Dairy ice cream and Monty’s beer.
