Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Guy's & St Thomas' Cardiovascular Department is one of the largest in the United Kingdom and within the directorate is the Department of Clinical Perfusion based at St Thomas' Hospital.
The Perfusion department at St Thomas' performs approximately 1200 adult and paediatric cardiac surgical bypass procedures per year whilst providing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation support for acute respiratory failure for both adults and paediatrics. Other services supported include Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Surgery, Laser Lead Extractions and Intra Aortic Balloon Pump therapy.

An opportunity has arisen within the department to appoint new Senior Clinical Perfusionists.
The successful candidates would have a number of years post qualification experience and join the team in its ongoing commitment to support both adult and paediatric cardiac surgery, our commissioned adult ECMO service along with the expanding paediatric ECMO service.
Applicants to this post will have extensive experience in adult perfusion practices, along with ECMO and/or paediatric experience. Support will be provided where required.
Participation in the on-call rota is essential.
Part-time and flexible working will be considered.

Please refer to the attached Job description for a comprehensive list of responsibilities, which includes:
- Inspect, prepare, assemble, prime and calibrate the cardiopulmonary bypass machine, extracorporeal circuit and related equipment for adult, paediatric and neonatal practice.
- Work as an autonomous expert practitioner, taking responsibility for organising and delegating multiple techniques required during a single procedure e.g.cardiopulmonary bypass, cell salvage, blood gases and intra-aortic balloon pumps, ECMO.
- The post holder would be expected to have a wide range of exposure to specialist clinical techniques and procedures seen in complex adult cases and experience in Paediatrics. This is likely to have been obtained over a significant number of years.
- Take the lead as the primary Perfusionist on – call i.e 1st on – call.
- Implement education and training programmes to facilitate continuing professional development within the department.
