An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of our team of ward-based Clinical Pharmacy Technicians. We have vacancies for Technicians looking for a new challenge to join our Clinical Pharmacy Team working across The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals.
You will initially be appointed as a Band 4 Pharmacy Technician and undertake 5 x Trust Dispensary Based Training Programmes, an in house discharge assembling on wards training, Medicines Management Module 1 or equivalent, Medicines Management Module 3 (these will take approximately 6months to complete) and an Accredited Checking Qualification(approximately 12 months). Once all training programmes are complete and evidence has been provided to Human Resources, you will be moved to Band 5 Clinical Pharmacy Technician.
Applicants who already hold relevant qualifications/training or experience mentioned above will progress to the Band 5 pay scale accordingly.
The successful candidates will also be expected to undertake Medicines Management 4 or a higher level diploma as part of their role.
We will also accept applicants due to qualify as Pharmacy Technicians in early 2025.

- To complete medication histories and help achieve medication reconciliation targets in line with CQC recommendations.
- Counselling patients about their medication within pharmacy and at ward level. The post holder is required to communicate with a diverse range of people who visit pharmacy where there may be barriers to understanding e.g. hearing impaired patients or patients whose first language is not English.
- Communicates with other professional and technical staff within the hospital or community pharmacy, regarding specific patient and operational issues.
- Supports other healthcare professionals, particularly the clinical pharmacists by identifying patients in any care setting who need a clinical medication review for a long term condition, high risk medicine, complex transfer of care or problematic polypharmacy.
- Support and mentor students and junior members of the team.
- Helps identify patients at risk of hospital admission or readmission (in accordance with guidance) and assists with referrals to community pharmacy for follow up post-discharge.
- Will undertake an accredited technician checking course after completion of other in-house training schemes if not already held.

- To practice as a registered pharmacy technician.
- To provide a clinical service to identified patients.
- In domiciliary general practice or Trust settings including reducing risk associated with the admission and discharge process.
- To undertake a broad range of technical pharmaceutical activities in the dispensary and wards, including providing advice to patients and other healthcare staff.
Band 4
- To practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician.
- To undertake a full range of technical pharmaceutical activities within the dispensary including providing advice to patients and other healthcare staff.
- To support ward-based services on identified wards at the RVI and FH including the dispensing of discharge prescriptions, completing medication histories and providing patient counselling.
