Job overview
Due to the post holder being successful internally in another post, a rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a three month interim post as Head of Professional Standards and Safeguarding.
This post will be part of the NMAHP senior team in the trust and will strategically lead the safeguarding agenda for the trust to ensure its statutory and legal functions are met. It will lead the safeguarding unborn, children and adult service, the acute liaison and learning disability and autism leads and the Dementia and Delirium/Admiral Nurse and EnCoP service. The portfolio also includes professional standards and working alongside the Directors of Nursing whilst also acting as the Safeguarding Designated/Pipot (Person in Position of Trust) Lead for safeguarding cases.
There is a large element of partnership working with the post including being a core member of the children's and adult boards in North Tyneside and Northumberland and the delivery plans.

The role will lead the trusts safeguarding agenda and ensure the trust fulfils its legal and statutory responsibilities in terms of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity Act while leading the strategic vision and priorities of the trust. This also includes high level MARAC, MAPPA, Child and Adult Safeguarding Reviews, Domestic Abuse Related Death process and Drug related death process.
The role involves providing highly specialist advice internally and externally around complex safeguarding, high risk cases and intervention and it is therefore integral that the post holder has a high level of post qualifying experience in direct safeguarding, including decisions around thresholds of need and Care Act/ Working Together to Safeguard Children and Mental Capacity Act.
The post holder will also Chair the partnership Safeguarding Adults Review Committee and other partnership meetings as a core function of safeguarding.
The post holder will make high level decisions and write detailed reports where an adult or child has died as a result of harm/neglect including case reviews, Domestic Abuse related deaths and investigation and court reports. This will also include identifying learning and actions for the trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will also manage and coordinate the trust safeguarding board and promote a culture of safeguarding throughout the trust. This will include scrutinising, and interpreting high level safeguarding data and also providing assurance to the ICB including via an internal dashboard and NHS England statutory data collection and the local safeguarding boards in the geographical footprint of the trust.
There is direct line management responsibility for the Named Nurse for Children Safeguarding, Team Lead Adult Safeguarding and Professional Lead for MCA/DoLs and MHA, the Named Midwife for Safeguarding and the Admiral Nurse Lead.
