Job overview
As a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be a visible personality on the ward who is able to take control of situations and manage the general day to day running of the unit, in the ward manager's absence. You will need to be approachable and supportive to all staff and be able to offer advice and guidance when needed. You will lead by example and support junior staff to maintain the units high standards.

We currently have vacancy for a permanent band 6 position on SDEC. We are a multi-speciality unit which works alongside A+E with an aim to see and treat patients on the same day and prevent admissions to hospital.
We are seeking an innovative, highly motivated forward thinking nurse who has the ability to manage a busy unit on a daily basis using expert clinical knowledge and judgement whilst providing support to staff. You will be responsible for taking referrals from GP/NWAS and ED and inputting these on the system as well as co-ordinating an extremely busy area. You will be expected to have both a ‘hands on' approach in providing high quality care and have a visible and approachable presence on the ward in order to support junior staff with their role. You will also be expected to support the ward manager with general management duties and have an understanding of the varying factors that affect patient care and experience, staff development and must comply with Trust Policies at all times.
This is a permanent position.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you are responsible for the general running of the unit during the shift. you will coordinate the care needs of patients and understand the varying conditions and what is required. You will coordinate safety huddles to inform all staff on shift of any new risks as well update the staff regarding changes to medical plans. You will be responsible for liaising with the medical team and manning safety huddles on a regular basis. You will be expected to hold the medical referral bleep and will need to liaise regularly with the senior management team.
You will have a good understanding of the sickness and attendance policies to be able to assist the ward manager in managing sickness as well as access to the incident reporting system to assist with the closing of incidents and subsequent dissemination of information and lessons learnt from the incident. You will have an understanding of the training needs of staff on the ward and be able to assist them with booking and attending courses for both mandatory training and professional development as well as completing weekly/monthly audits to show compliance with staff roles and trust guidelines, with the aim to provide guidance and training if shortfalls are identified.

You are encouraged where possible, to register for the DBS update service. This is an annual registration fee of £16. By registering for the update service you will not have the additional cost of repeated disclosures.
Should you withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.
DBS checks remain free of charge for volunteer positions.
