Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

The department of Plastic Surgery is seeking a number of SpR’s to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in a number of exciting initiatives and are looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.
Please note that successful completion of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is our accepted minimum language requirement.
Working for our organisation
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s best known teaching hospitals and employs over 13,650 staff and has over 2 million patient contacts a year. Our annual turnover is now £1.3 billion.
As part of the King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Network (KHP AHSN), the Trust works closely with King’s College London, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust in collaborative research and joint working initiatives.
There are 28 substantive consultants and within the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department offering a general plastic surgery service as well as specialist services in breast reconstruction, Head and Neck reconstruction surgery, skin cancer, paediatrics, congenital hand deformity and epidermolysis bullosa. In addition there is a full time commitment to the AHSN’s trauma service including hand injuries, soft tissue repair and trauma reconstruction in collaboration with the Major Trauma Centre based at King’s College Hospital. The team also supports Gynaecology, Colorectal and General Surgical cases with consultants from the other specialties across GSTT.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical:
The postholder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of services to the Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to include:
(a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
Training of junior staff:
The postholder will take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated to him/her under aegis of the training plan that that postholder has agreed with their supervising consultant.
Teaching:
The postholder will be expected to contribute as appropriate in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Clinical Governance:
All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their appraisal.
Educational Programme:
Neither the London Deanery nor the Royal College accredits this post for postgraduate training. However the postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities e.g. departmental meetings, x-ray meetings, pathology meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs etc.
