Research & Innovation Manager (R&IM) Band AfC 8A
Full time, 12 month fixed term
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our team of Research and Innovation Managers (R&IMs) who work across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) supporting and developing areas of strategic importance in the current climate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the research activity within a number of key specialities.
The vision of the Trust is to become the leading integrated health, teaching, research and innovation campus in the NHS. Within this context our aim is to ensure that MFT is one of the top 5 NHS Trusts for research and innovation in the U.K. Our capacity for translation of research and innovation into improved patient care will be internationally recognised. R&IMs are responsible for the research delivery within the Specialty areas across MFT, and their duties include, but are not limited to managing the non-clinical research support staff such as clinical trial managers and coordinators, managing budgets within specialities, supporting grant applications, overseeing project approvals, negotiating budgets of commercially sponsored studies, ensuring recruitment to time and target, and other troubleshooting needs in their areas of responsibility.
As a part of the role you will also be expected to interact with other internal stakeholders such as the Clinical Research Delivery Staff, Research Office, the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility, the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, the hosted Greater Manchester NIHR Clinical Research Network, clinical services across the Trust, hospital and managed clinical services senior leadership teams and external bodies such as the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, contract research organisations and commercial companies.
The successful candidate will be required to have exceptional communication skills, demonstrate effective leadership skills and be confident in managing a demanding and varied workload.

Essential criteria
- Clinical/scientific degree at masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience in operational management
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical or scientific practice
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Thorough understanding of the systems and processes which are used to support the delivery of high quality research in a clinical environment
- An understanding of R&D issues in the Health Care Settings
- Knowledge of research governance and quality assurance systems to ensure safe systems for patients
- Project management

- Knowledge of Health Care/University networks
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in the Health Care Settings in senior research management role
- Experience of line management responsibility for staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a large teaching hospital or University Personal research experience Commercial research experience Nursing, midwifery or other clinical or related work experience
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate with different professions both internal and external
