The Department of Paediatric Neurology is one of the longest established in Britain. It is supported by 8.5 WTE consultants based at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH) with links being established to support the Lancaster and South Cumbria population served by Royal Preston Hospital.
The Paediatric Neurology department also has specialized services including a long-standing Neuromuscular Service, an acquired brain injury service and specialised clinics including neuroimmunology, neurovascular and Neurofibromatosis. The department is one of the 4 centres in England chosen to provide a service for children’s epilepsy surgery. This is run jointly with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The ketogenic diet service is one of the largest in the country with 60 patients currently.

A vacancy has arisen for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology. The successful candidate will join ten other Consultant colleagues at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and one at Royal Preston Hospital in providing a comprehensive Paediatic Neurology service including an advisory service for other paediatric consultants in the North West region. A key role of the appointee will be to provide paediatric neurology expertise to the Royal Oldham Hospital and the Oldham Community Paediatric Team as well as Royal Lancaster Infirmary and the Community Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Service at Lancaster

- Postgraduate qualification (MRCPCH or equivalent)
- Completion of basic/core training as defined by RCPCH
- Completion of higher training in Paediatric Neurology or equivalent training demonstrated

- Higher qualification (MD, PhD etc)
- Post CCT training in paediatric neurology
Teaching and Audit

Academic Achievements and Research

- Publications in recognised journals (Notably specialist journals such as Development Medicine and Child Neurology)

Other Requirements

- Full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration) and Licensed to Practice
- Registered on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for relevant CCT within 6 months of interview.
